19 inch PC monitor for sale.
« on: October 10, 2002, 08:39:02 pm »
Hello everyone,
This monitor does NOT work.

Nothing comes on the screen. It was good about a week ago but I had to tap it around to get the picture but not its not coming back ever.I paid $300 about 2 months ago(brand new) and I know NOTHING about monitors(nothin at all).So fixing is not my thang.anyways.....  Only $100 with shiping.shiping alone might come out about $50 so anyone know how to fix monitors would easyly do it.

Its 1600x1200.If anyone serious about buying then I can open up the monitor and take a picture so you could see whats wrong inside and if anyone thinks they can fix then just let me know..thanks.

The monitor is GEM(name) 19".

I should make a comment about someone selling their junk at inflated prices, but I will refrain.

Sorry, couldn't resist.  Seriously though  I can buy refurbed 19" for less than that.  Since Snaake has jumped on 3 sale offers in the last month I thought that I'd return the favor.

I got a 21" monitor (that worked!) for 50 plus 50...

You can do well to visit a place that get's the "hand me downs" from corporate upgrade roll downs and re-sells them...

*shrug*  100 dollars is a lot for a paperweight, especially if you weren't a monitor guru, paying a monitor repairman just to look at it would end up being more that what Snaaake actually paid for the monitor...

YMMV,

If you just bought it brand new a few months ago, how come you don't send it back on warranty and get it fixed?

Exactly!!!  If brand new but a couple months ago, any monitor manufacturer should have at the lowest, even the crappiest and cheapest monitors have 90 Day WAR.  Most have at 1 Yr to 3 Yr.

Try selling that on ebay... you might have better luck there, a lot of people tend to wanna buy broken junk on Ebay for some crazy reason.

Just my 2 cents... then again, lemme check my pockets... errr, how about a penny and a button, with some pocket lint ;)

Going back to the original problem.

If you have to tap a monitor to get it to "work", that is usally indicative of a cold solder joint.

Especially if the monitor is new and exhibited no other signs of failure  (e.g. a hissing sound or pop indicating a capacitor blew out, or burning/etc.. indicating a short or defective component)

This COULD be as easy as removing the shell and shields and then with an insulated wood or plastic stick, poking at the circuit boards on the top and bottom while the unit is on, looking for the place where the solder didn't flow correctly and isn't making a solid connection.

However, the others are right: If this is < 90 days old, get it fixed under warranty. If no receipt or no warranty coverage, then check out the above. Otherwise, scavenge it for parts and toss it, or eBay it.

BTW-FedExGround shipping should only be around $25-$35 for a 19" computer monitor.  On those massive 21" ones, with the heavy metal double frame and shield, double boxed, only cost me $48 to ship.

I actually shipped a 19" single boxed last year via UPS ground and with a business pickup account it cost about $27 to ship then.  And FedExGround is usally less expensive I've seen on higher weight/sized items.

How did you say it to me?  Something like "PLEASE DON'T FLAME ME, but..."?

Don't worry, you won't get a reply like that from me, though.  Best of luck on your sale.

I have done this to my 21". i have the same problem as SNAKE and I have open the case and tap the FLYBACk, Any part of the chassis and it come back on and off....I have taking out the board and re-solder lots of points hoping it was a cold solder ( I did it twice, after the first time was stillno good). I tried lifting the FLYBACK just a tad and the board just a tad, and again it comes on the off. Could a FLYBACK also cause this type of problem ? Maybe not sending enought Voltage to the CRT ? I dunno I hope somebody is a MONITOR guro and nail this problem down for me and Snake....Maybe He will save hi monitor if One of us has a a successfull fix/help...TIA

OKAY....first the monitor is not even mine so I really dont care.My brother paid everything for it so thats his problem but good news is that we got it fixed for $25 and I had to carry around 19" monitor to a tv repair guy.

Thenasty,
You could go to some tv repair shop and they might fix it.I still have the warrenty but who wants to send it by paying shiping..I rather just throw it out.
Good luck fixing yours and I got the monitor back in like the same day.It was probley nothing if I were to guess. :)

The guy(tv repair dude) didn't wanna tell me and to be very honest,I do not have a clue. But take my advice and open up the monitor then take a pic and post.I am sure there are people here who can tell by looking maybe.I am not quite sure how or what but my problem was likely a loose solder joint because the screen kept coming if I smacked it hard enough.
