For those of you that have your bios set to reboot computer after power loss so that you can use one switch to shut your cab on and off, have you had any problem with your operating system due to not doing a proper shutdown? Also, do you disable scandisk so that it doesn't run everytime you turn your cab on?
I was just curious because I was thinking of setting mine up this way and I didn't want to be causing any problems with the computer.
You are talking about two different BIOS settings -
Wake on - (Any KEY, ESC, USB, etc), is the setting for pressing a key to fire up the cab.
I don't know of a one-key shutdown button, but there might be one.
State after power off (Off, reboot) is a different BIOS setting. This is to determine what happens if you "pull the plug on the computer". I set this to off on all my machines b/c
1) if I am away from home and a thunderstorm starts, I don't really care to have the machine re-boot.
2) if the power goes out in our area, it is likely to go out three or four more times in the next half hour before it is working right.
Any windows machine will eventually have problems if it is repeatedly shut down improperly
