ipac 4 problem + ps/2 trackball

hi..
i have IPAC4 (it may be faulty - still trying to figure it out) hooked up ps/2 style to keyboard and a PS/2 mouse/trackball with 3 button hookup.  

everytime i move trackball, what ever is mapped to player 1 sw8 goes off.  Is there a way to to disable that sw?..  or is it faulty?

Are you saying that you have the IPAC4 plugged into the keyboard port on your motherboard and you have a PS/2 trackball plugged into the keyboard passthrough port on the IPAC4?

If so, you can't do that.  The port on the IPAC4 is for a keyboard only.

You'll have to plug your trackball into the PS/2 mouse port on your motherboard.

ipac is wired to keyboard port with acutal keyboard on ipac passthough

ps/2 mouse/trackball wired to mouse port.

only have 1 wired hooked up at the moment to test other connections

So are you saying that you have your keyboard hooked up through your IPAC passthrough. Have you tried disconnecting your keyboard from the IPAC and seeing what happens??

yes, it still does what key is map to that with keyboard passthough NOT hooked up

IPac to ps2 keyboard port
Trackball/mouse to ps2 port.

Problem is:
When trackball/mouse is move/spined etc...the Value in P1 sw8 is registering. How could that be ?

If you not using the p1 sw8, go to the TAB - General option and set that to NONE.

In all reality this is one of a couple of different issues.

Accidental grounding. Which doesn't seem to be your problem as it sounds like you don't have that input even wired.

Motherboard issue. Something is wrong with the design of your motherboard that causes this to happen.

Power issue. See motherboard issue above. For whatever reason the current is dropping too low on your PS2 ports when you use the trackball, causing the ghosted input.

Does this happen when you use a PS2 mouse instead?

How about a USB mouse?

Does it happen in MSDOS mode (use a windows 98 boot disc to get to dos if you are running XP).

Is there any actual continuity between the sw8 position and ground when it is registering. Set your multimeter to check continuity, put one lead on sw8 and the other on ground. Should be no continuity. Move the trackball, see if your meter shows any continuity when you are moving it. If you don't own a multimeter then you need to buy one, as it is the single most important tool to own if you are into this hobby. It is more important than a 1 1/8" spade bit even.

Does it happen when you take the I-Pac out of the picture altogether (just plug in a keyboard).

Does it happen with another computer?
