Where can I find a particular WAV sound???
« on: September 06, 2004, 06:44:25 am »
I am trying to find a wav file of Q*Bert saying "Hello, I'm turned on"

Q*bert machines say this when they are powered on. I have searched the net, but I have yet to find it.

Thanks,
craig

Well, you can make your own if you want to.  In the service menu of Q*bert you can select the sound test.  When it gets to sound 28, it will say, "Hello, I'm turned on".

Good luck,
Rocky

actually if you dowload the SAMPLE from MAME.NET and look in the ZIP file, its already there.

I knew that Q*bert used samples, but I didn't know that all the sounds were in the sample file.

Here it is. change the extension to .wav

That is easily the most disturbing thing I have ever heard!!

But way cool as a startup noise!

Does Q-Bert say anything else recognizable?

After you put in your high score initials he says "Bye Bye"

what language is he talking anyway? I thought it was backwards, but when i reversed those samples, they were still in gobbledygook. Maybe an alien.

Q*bert speaks gibberish.  The game makes use of a speech chip that uses random phonetic sounds.  I don't think the speech chip is emulated, so MAME uses the same "sampled" sounds over and over again.

It is NOT only gibberish. When the game is powered up it says "Hello, I'm turned on" and when after you enter your high score initials it says "Bye Bye"

It only speaks gibberish during gameplay.
