Coin Mech Converting
« on: June 07, 2004, 07:35:30 pm »
I'm sorry, but I didnt find any threads about my specific coin mech on how to convert it via searching. Here is my question. I dont want to make this mech accept tokens etc, I just want to be able to accept pennies, nickles, and dimes along with the quarters it currently accepts. This mech is out of a happs over/under coin door. Its a Wells-Gardner 25cent mech. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!

if that is made of palstic, it might not work. Check this thread to how to make the "Ultimate All in One Coin Mech".

You know, I actually printed that out at work today so I could try it when I get home, but I didnt quite understand if it went for my specific coin mech or not. Let me ask you this, what is the main thing I need to adjust for this to be able to accept those particular coins? The coin cradle? or something closer to the bottom. Thanks

I don't have a WG coin mech but yours looks like its plastic. If the cradle is remove, this basically let any size tokens to fall thru but at the bottom, there something you need to do, it coins will fall thru the switch and trigger it.

Well I just read some dissapointing news from a Happs FAQ:

Quote
Happ metal/plastic mechs and mini front plate can not be easily converted to accept a different coin than they were originally made for. There can be 7 different parts that need to be replaced, and 6 adjustments that need to be made. These mechs can not be easily adjusted to accept other coins without replacing the various parts. We recommend that the customer buy a new mech.

But that's if you really want to "accept" certain coins.

You just want to provide a path for any coin to trip the coin switch. Look at the thread on the ultimate coin mech and basically all you're doing is ripping out the guts of the mech.

The plastic one might be different because it might not have as many removable parts. You should be able to look at the thing and the path that the coin will take and remove any plastic parts that restrict size ect. Just use a hand file, razor knife and/or a dremel. Besure to document you project so others can learn.

Folks, the point of a coin mech is to accept a specific coin and reject all else (especially "slugs"). If you don't care what goes in, then just mess up your mech so it never drops the coin into the coin return shoot...

Your "Wells-Gardner" coin chute is actually a Coin Controls chute. Wells distributed the Coin Controls product line for a brief period before they were disconitinued. Some (but not many) Coin Controls parts are distributed by Happ Controls. Please don't bastardize a Coin Controls coin chute as they are getting harder to find and they are the only coin chute that fits & works the best in Coin Controls coin doors.

now that you mentioned that WG is actually by Coin Controls, I took a look at my batch and it is identical to the pics above. I don't think this is convertable without destroying it.
