How to speed up Ms Pacman in MAME??

I was wondering if anyone knew how to speed up Ms Pacman in MAME so that it plays like the version in the new Ms Pacman/Galaga arcade cabinets. The Ms Pacman is almost twice as fast as in the original game, while the ghosts seem the same speed they always were. Thanks!!!

All you got to do is hit Tab, then select dip switch settings. Toggle speed up cheat to on and then exit out and Waka Waka Waka.

I think you have to have the cheat.dat file in your MAME directory for it work.  It's been a while, but IIRC, if you don't have the cheat.dat file then the speed up cheat option doesn't appear.  Perhaps that's changed in the more recent MAME releases, though.

Yup I double checked to make sure that wasnt needed and its all good.

Thanks for the help guys, but I tried your suggestions this morning and your cheat speeds up Ms Pacman to an INSANE level!!! I was looking for something a little more authentic like in the Ms Pacman/Galaga cabinets.

i know its different, but if you havent tried Ms Pac championship edition, you really should. its a super fast version with weird levels, its really addicting

Awesome, I never tried that championship edition before.  It aslo contains another game: The "Super Zola Pac Gal" game is a tad slower though (but still faster than the original).  Use the dip swich setting to switch to that game from championshiop edition then restart (F3).

I like those games AT THE ORIGINAL SPEED I ENJOYED THEM @ IN THE 80s!! (Best games ever)

This is a truly eerie coincidence... I created this topic back in May 2004 because I had just returned from the Pop Century Resort in Walt Disney World where I discovered and played the Ms. Pac Man/Galaga 25th anniversary game in the arcade there. The odd part is that yesterday I returned from staying at the Pop Century Resort with my family and suddenly this topic bumps back up!! Truly strange coincidence!!! FYI, While I was there I checked for the Ms. Pac Man/Galaga cabinet in the arcade, but it was gone.

I think you're looking for the Ms Packman Speedup Hack rom, it's a bootlag I think, a separate game form the normal Ms Packman.

Since you bumped the thread and nobody mentioned it here earlier, "Namco 20 Year Reunion : Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga - Class of 1981" (20pacgal) was added to MAME in 0.111u1 with the latest update in 0.170.   

* To toggle the built-in speedup, insert coins then enter the following sequence: Left, Right, Left, Right, Up(x3), Fire. If you did it correctly, the sound heard in both Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man when you eat a bonus fruit item will play. This will toggle the speed in both Ms Pac-Man & Pac-Man as well as provide a 'Fast Shot' in Galaga.

You can do that on 60 in 1 boards.  You have the option to set it to fast or normal in the DIP settings and dots or hearts.

I also wanted to add that newer MAME versions have mspacmnf (fast version).  In earlier versions of MAME, there was no mspacmnf rom, it simly had the option in the menu to make it fast.  They later removed it and made it it's own rom.  IIRC.
