Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.

Major Havoc. The humor kills me.

Also that train game from the 80s where you move the track around on the screen.

"rescue"  is pretty wild.   Dual controls - simular to robotron.

Rally Bike - nice top view racer... with some cool suprises

Assault - best tank game ever

ninja princess - nice game with cool changes at higher levels

 two tigers
 mad planets

The afore mentioned train game is called Loco Motion, I believe. Also fun.

A game i've been playin lately is Pipedream.  it's a great fast thinking puzzle game.

For something that's out of the box, and something completly different... you should try Cameltry.  I have no idea what it has to do with camels, but it's a good game none the less.  I'd suggest a spinner for it though.

that is the only game ever that gives me motion sickness.  it just screws with my head ???

My friends and I stumbled across that game one night. Man it got pretty crazy after that. lol, we had a lot of fun.

Hmm,  was watching 'The Last Starfighter'  tonight on HBO.

I noticed a line in the movie where Centari said that he 'designed and built the game'

Which made me think...  Centari = Centuri  ?  Heh   Maybe a even combination of centuri and atari?  heh

So I fired up mame and looked under Centuri's games for kicks.  I noticed a game that I had never played:

 "Aztarac"

  An interesting Vector game.

I tried to work it... but couldnt get the controls.   Did a few searches, and found some california extreme control panel pics.   It used a tron style joystick - but looks to use an optical interface.  Basically,  and analog stick that didnt seem to use a centering mechanism.  The other control was a spinner... and a few buttons.

Even after finding out what controls the game used... it was tricky to make the mame32 varient assign the correct values.   I had to keep trying the same things over and over untill it liked me : )   Finally, I got to play : )

Use an analog stick or analog gamepad control to move your ship (you may have to reverse some of the axis as well).   You use the mouse/spinner to aim your laser turret.

You must protect 4 bases from enemy crashes.   Once you clear enough enemies.. you can move into the center of the bases to warp to another level.

The game is trippy - esp the title screen.  Looks pretty cool... but I couldnt play it too well, as I was trying to use a mouse as the spinner... and the game moves way to fast for that! : )

Ohh, and one other interestic thing... its front plexi that sits over the monitor - was a half dome (convex - pointed twords you).   That must have made the thing look even more trippy.

I'll have to check it out again to be sure (I was young), but I had some great times when I rented Home Alone for the NES. You picked up traps and laid them as you ran around the house as the 2 burglars chased you. Think of it as a G-rated Tecmo's Deception

Thanks for sharing though! I printed out your post so I can check out the game later -- sounds complicated.

What is the best game, that odds are good, I've never played. A rare find that many do not know about, but is your little treasure? Your favorite game that others often miss? Mine would be twin tigers, a fun game that reminds me of my youth. Whats yours?

No doubt about it, Reactor.  Never had seen it in an arcade and it is just an amazing game.

I've been taking a liking to Krull lately.  Dual joystick game like Robotron and Splat!.  Different missions per level, reminds me a little of Tron in some weird way.  It's not a game I would own, but fun to play on occasion.

I'd have to 2nd this one.  The arcade I grew up near had this game and I would play it all the time.  If I remember correctly the 2 joysticks were bat handles.  I think the sound effects are great too.

I was a big fan of the Nemesis and salamander as a kid, if it wasn't for mame I would never have had the oppertunity to play gradius 3.

Give Star Castle a whirl if you haven't before.

For me, its all the newer games.

I was a video kid croney.  I played almost all of the classics in the arcade.  So none of them hit the "Best game I've Never Played".

BUT...  I stopped playing after college.  And I always heard that the arcade scene died out... I assumed that ment games too.

So my votes are all of the amazing and fun vertical shooters.

19xx
Tomato one (captain tomato?)
ALL the psikyos!

These are all the ones that really shine when playing with a real joystick and buttons also.

Oh yeah... and ALL the amazing PRoN games out there!  I guess my local arcade growing up wheren't filled (or more like owned) by pervs like me :)

And for others

Puzzle Loop  <-- GREAT GAME
Gals Panic     <-- Great additions to quix.  Plus a little show and tell

Growl!

It's a game where you're a like an animal rights activist cowboy who goes around ripping poachers apart--like literally ripping them apart.

Play through to the end to find out who was behind the "evils of animal poaching."

I play Cavelon quite a bit. It's very difficult though, yet very simplistic..... just collect all the door parts to escape to the next level. I haven't got past level 3 yet!

I played this game on my ZX Spectrum back in the 80s and I wasn't aware that it was a straight coin-op conversion. But I have to say that the Speccy version was very, very good as the the coin-op itself only differs by having better graphics.

For those of you who like a good platform game, I can higly recommend Baluba-louk (baluba.zip). There is no end to this game though, it just loops over some 15 levels...
Another good game is Go Go Mile Smile which is more of a maze/snake game thingy. :)

The combatribes. Bad control, but satisfying violence.

What controls is Uo Poko supposed to use? Just the one button?

For YEARS I thought Uo Poko only used the Start Buttons and down on the joystick. Then I bought a real board and discovered that service mode recognized all joystick directions and all 3 buttons, but the game was still just "down".

That was until about 6 months ago when I was playing Uo Poko (real board, not Mame), and a friend of mine did something I had never seen before, he rolled the joystick around from down to up and was able to adjust the chain back upwards.

I had been playing for years and I had no idea you could do that.

Also, from what I have seen, all recent Japanese jamma boards recognize all the standard Jamma inputs in test mode, even if the game doesn't use them all, Magical Tetris does this, as does Mr. Driller 2 and the aforementioned Uo Poko).
Acceptance of Zen philosophy is marred slightly by the nagging thought that if all things are interconnected, then all things must be in some way involved with Pauly Shore.
