Joystick Question - I'm So Confused???
« on: March 30, 2004, 08:39:05 pm »
??? - OK, I want a good 8-way joystick that doesn't feel blocky when I rotate it. I thought what I had were Super's and I've switched the acuator over several times but it still feels like I'm hitting corners. I want something that is smooth..... Competitions like this?  I read to stay away from Ultimates but the one I removed from my old cabinet did just what I wanted it to do???  I would also like to switch this stick from a 8-way to a 4-way if possible. This is only a 1 player cabinet and it is vertical. So I want to play Shooters with the 8-way with smooth motion and games like Ms.PacMan with 4-way...

Which joystick to get??

Thanks

Eight way leaf joys.  Smooth as silk.

That kind of all depends on what kind of leaf stick you want.  If you want the old WICO leaf joysticks, then your going to have buy one used or new old stock that wont be cheap. ive seen them sell on ebay for around 40.00 on a regular basis.

The perfect 360 will give you REALLY nice smooth feel and you wont feel the corners at all, but the stick feels stiffer the the supers. It has a stiffer spring in it.  The happ comps, do definately feel the corners, just like the supers.
You can buy a new offbrand  leaf stick for around 20.00, but the quality isnt the greatest.  There is a post somewhere on the forum here where someone did a full review and comparison between a WICO brand and an off brand.  Maybe someone could help with the  link to that one as i dont have time at the moment since i  am at work.

Good luck.  Its hard to find the  "stick" that you like best and i can very depending on what games i am playing for me.  Different sticks for different games, thats why i have a  panel with happs comepetition and one leaf stick, so i can play whatever kind of game i want to and get the feeling i want also.

Good luck,
groovY~

supers ARE smooth to spin.  look at http://www.happcontrols.com/ search for joysticks, select page, goto supers and explode view.  This will allow you to see if thats what you got.

I love mine for some (TimePilot, Gyrus) games..  And they aren't bad in fighters... just harder to tell your corners.

I only have 4way leafs... so I can't compare those.
