Sith Lord Pedestal

I decided to dismantle my automated cabinet(sorry DaOld Man) because it got to be too complicated and took up too much space. I have a 50" TV on the wall, so a pedestal cabinet with casters, seemed like a good compromise. I wanted it to be simple to build, that is why I use the base that is use the an Iircade cabinet. These things are built rock solid and at the time only cost $50, I couldn't go wrong using it. I used all the same button, joysticks, light guns, I/O devices, PC and software. The only thing I bought was a new trackball, the old one never worked that good and I wanted a blue one. I reused the original Marquee I created from the automated cabinet as well as the lighted Sith symbols on the pedestal sides. I even repurposed some of the artwork onto the control panel. The casters were needed so I could move the pedestal if I wanted to play pool.









3D printed a button cover for the start button, I also printed one for the stop button.

I like how you did your control panel. It has stuff that you won't use as often like the big stick and the spinner, but it keeps them out of the way.

So, the pedestal does get in the way of playing pool. Because the game room has gotten more crowded, rolling it out of the way has become a pain. I had a couple of ideas. Modify the pedestal so it can be lowered below the pool table when not in use, then raised up when playing. Option 2 move it to different location but use a smaller tv/monitor, 32" maybe. I always thought the 50" TV was a little too big. Lastly, get rid of it all together and use my iircade as my mame arcade and install a 19" monitor and add a PCB and software to sideload my mame roms into it. I know they also make a control panel for it that includes a trackball. This would be the most expensive option but more plug and play with very little tinkering when setup. If I go with option number 2, I would probably need to get rid of the iircade, do to lack of space. I like the iircade because it has Dragons Lair on it, a game I haven't been able to get working on my pedestal. I would still like to use the 50" TV for only light gun games.

Well I decided on option two, a new location using a 32" monitor. I removed the casters and had to find a way to hide the hole I made in the control panel for the TV remote. I looked to my Home Depot animated Darth Vader for the answer. I made a "holographic" death star, to replace the pumpkin he was holding. I had already made a "holographic Emperor" I was going to use for Vader but I liked the Death Star better. I also made the Galactic Empire logo for the top of the monitor. They both light up, (the Emperor flickers) when in the Mala game menu. I also finally got to use the pair of speakers I've been holding onto for 30 years. I also updated the Mala layout and was able to add Daphen, so now I can play Dragon's Lair, along with the other laser disc games. Finally, I would like to thank, DaOld Man for his assistance.
Next up is a dedicated shooter, for that 50" TV.
