Joysticks not engaging microswitches
« on: April 02, 2017, 08:03:43 pm »
I am building a Jamma arcade and got a pretty simple setup of buttons, jamma harness, and 4-8 way joysticks. Of course, after mounting the joystick to the control board, I don't have quite enough play in the stick to engage both microswitches to move diagonally. Moving the stick in up down left or right engages the switch, I can hear it click, but diagonally the stick doesn't engage both switches. You get what you pay for... I don't have wood working tools to make a larger hole in the board. Is there a trick to fix this? Place something around the base of the joystick to make it wider so it will engage two switches at once?

(pic attached, you can see I even attempted to bend the arms thinking that would help... it didn't. My other thought was to remove the screws on the switches and then glue them into place a little closer to the base of the stick but I would rather not do that if I don't have to.)

What's the exploded view on that? I think you might have a part upside down, or missing.

Im not sure I know what you mean there. But I followed the instructions. I have the stick actually off to an angle... i.e. moving diagonally to show its not fully engaging the switches. I used all the parts provided. Pretty sure I followed them right. OMG... I didn't. I missed a line... holy crap. Thanks! Now I feel dumb...

Yeah, see that black plastic thing held in place by the clip shown in the photo?  Pop out the clip and see if you can invert the black plastic thing so that its "fatter" end is in contact with the switches.  That should get you hitting diagonals no problem.
