Leaf Buttons, long vs short
« on: January 16, 2004, 02:32:48 pm »
What are the lengths of these buttons?
Are they made for wood or metal CPs respectively?
If there's bees in the trap I'm catching em
By the thorax and abdomen
And sanding the stingers down to a rough quill
Then I dip em in ink, and I scribble a bit
But if it they wriggle then I tickle em until they hold still
Lemme say it again
In my land of pretend
I use bees as a mf'n pen

long ones  = wood panel
short ones = metal

Goto Wico web page. I think they have exact measurements.

The short ones can work well in wood if you mount the leaf switch directly to the panel.

Bob Roberts has a good tutorial that answers your question in detail:

1 1/8"  spade bit or hole saw. Same size hole as microswitch buttons need.

I highly recommend a Forstner bit for drilling holes.
They are a bit spendy compared to other bits, but do a WHOLE LOT better job.

They operate like a pencil sharpener, and shave little curls of wood off as they go.
If you drill a 1/16" pilot hole all the way through, then make about 1/4" deep start on one side, and finish up from the other side, you will get an almost perfect hole.
