Ten years with BYOAC
« on: December 01, 2015, 10:22:06 am »
I just took a look at my profile and realized that I registered here ten years ago as of last week. Seems like yesterday. So I want to thank Saint and all the admins/mods for ten years of supporting my habit.  Stumbling into the BYOAC site back then started me on this hobby that has allowed me to relive some of my childhood.  I remember playing Tank on a cocktail as a kid, and was 14 when Space Invaders came out.  I skipped high school with a friend sometimes to play Donkey Kong at a pizza joint, and still remember vividly the first time I reached Earth on the Gyruss cocktail there.  In college I played Birdie King and Track & Field at the campus bar.  Good times.

I don't post much, but for most of that ten years I've surfed the forums at least weekly, sometimes daily, and benefited greatly from the support of other users.  My first project was a desktop controller, and later I built a bar top for a friend.  Early on I got a free empty cab from a user here that is now rehabbed with a 412 in 1 setup.  Now I've got four uprights in various states of repair, and still search the forums for repair hints.  I've bought countless parts through here from Ponyboy, Divemaster and others, and through here I found Groovy Game Gear and Ultimarc, and The Real Bob Roberts.  IIRC somebody here mentioned something about DIY projectors once, and I pursued that through completion of a projector that entertained my kids and their friends for several years.

Finally, I want to thank the folks that have kept the *NSFW* Cheesecake fork -- Re:How many members does it take to change a lightbulb thread alive all these years....

Thanks!

OK, I decided to check after reading your post, and I have been here for 12 1/2 years. Unreal! I was only 31 back then. lol

It has been a fun ride. I spend more time at KLOV and Pinside these days, but I manage to stop by here pretty regularly still.

Wow, had not realized its been that long. Almost 13 years myself... I don't post nearly so often as some, I mostly lurk, but this site has been an invaluable resource for all things of or related to this hobby/addiction for me and a thanks is certainly in order! So, Thanks Saint and all the people who have helped me and others along this journey. Heres to another ten!

Nice to see that I'm not the only who's been around long enough to remember keyboard and mouse hacks...

Erm... I'm is still using a PS2 balled mouse with the optical sensors hacked into the trackball optical sensors...  :dizzy:
That was the go to method back in the day, lol.  In fact, now that I think about it, my IPAQ is the old PS2 version as well....

Perhaps I should upgrade soon...  :lol
