Zaxxon memory check...
« on: September 03, 2015, 11:07:23 am »
Is it just me, or did (does) anyone else have a hard time wrapping their head around controlling the ship in Zaxxon? The odd 45 degree, top down scrolling view always caused me to crash (or maybe it was the stick I was using, something like those Quick Shot Turbos while playing it on C64 and my childhood memory tells me these joysticks rotated slightly, but not intentionally).

Game always looked good to me, but the controls caused me to hate it. :dunno

I agree completely. Between the controls and the flying direction, it is hard to play. I use to play it on the Atari 400. Could maybe get to third level. I have it in Mame now, and have same issues. I find it hard to line up the targets and flight path to avoid obstacles. I remember firing constantly to figure out relative position of ship.

I wonder if this one is easier with a 4-way stick?  I'll have to give that a try.
