Advice on my cab repair ideas please
« on: July 24, 2015, 12:31:39 pm »
I've got several issues I'm dealing with one-by-one in turning this dynamo cab into a mame cab, and the first up is my swiss cheese metal control panel. It's an unknown (to me) Dynamo cab with the cut corner design control panel. Please see the images attached to this post. It's a mess.

My current solution: cut a piece of sheet metal to fit the cp and jb-weld the sucker to the top (player facing).

My other choices: 1) bolt some sheet metal down somehow from the top. 2) Bolt it underneath the current cp and fill in the old metal with a putty or bondo material.

Is my current solution adequate? I'm going to drill new holes to match a street fighter 2 sort of setup, and I'm going to put a vinyl cpo on top of that and then a sheet of acrylic.

thanks in advance

Buy a CP that isn't swiss cheese.

Buy a CP that isn't swiss cheese.

Thanks. That is I suppose an option, but I wouldn't have any idea what to look for.

Do you think my solution will work?

What's the width of the CP? I have a spare laying around with a 6 button layout.

I don't have it in front of me at the moment, but going from memory I think it's something like 23-3/4".

Thats a weird CP. Any idea why it has so many holes?
If Nephasth's CP wont work, I think i would take that one to a machine shop and see if they can make me one in the same shape, minus the holes, unless you know where you want them, then the shop could probably cut those for you too.

Mine is 25 7/16". No dice. But your idea can work, just not the best solution.

The guy that gave it to me said they had some kind of proprietary controls built in to the large open sections. I have no idea if that is true.

If Nephasth's CP wont work, I think i would take that one to a machine shop and see if they can make me one in the same shape, minus the holes, unless you know where you want them, then the shop could probably cut those for you too.

Any idea (ballpark) on what I could expect for a price for that?

Do you recommend that because my sheet metal idea won't work?

I see, thanks anyway!

If I need to salvage the current cp, can you think of a better way to do it than my idea? I'm totally new at this part of the build so there may be something obvious I'm not aware of.

Sorry man, I do not have any idea. If you have a local machine shop they can probably shoot you a price then you could decide. It may be way too high.

No, im not saying that, your idea would definitely be worth a try. I just suggested that if you are not happy with your results.

mine was slightly less swiss-cheesy than yours though
If you're replying to a troll you are part of the problem.
I also need to follow this advice. Ignore or report, don't reply.

Very nice. Yeah mine is a bit worse but basically the same problem.

Do we have the same cab? Looks like it. I may have some question for you as I go.

Thanks!

Unrelated really to my OP, I really hate this control panel. I want to smash it.

I did the sheet metal thing on my Macross build, although in hindsight,  I wish I would have welded it in stream of using JB Weld. But it worked.
