ShoRyuKade 2.0
« on: May 27, 2012, 11:01:30 pm »
Edit: decided to call it ShoRyuKade (for now)

The good:
Monitor has a great picture, just needs some minor adjustments, I dont see any burnin either, weut!
Perfect 360 controllers, I think these things retail for more than I paid for the cab
cab is very sturdy, and since it was in a Laundromat it actually smells GOOD, like fresh linen
looks like it has a fairly new switching power supply in it (last pic)
Free CPS2 kick harness!

The bad:
cab is kinda beat up, has a buncha holes I'll need to patch
The wiring is a mess, but that's not exactly a tough thing to fix
Bezel is borked
Marquee has gapper tape all over it and will need to be replaced, I salvaged the translight
Marquee light needs replaced, it works but its LOUD
Monitor glass has DEEP key scratches
Tmolding is shot.

enough text, here's the money shots:

Its gonna stay in the garage so I can take it out to the drive way for sanding /painting /etc

Run N Gun! :D

Yup, some awesome guy sold it to me.
I was waiting for the download and conversion of the attract videos to finish, but its been going for over 8 hours. If only MaLa played MP4s (I cant hit the website and dont have the beta)

I've been working on game lists, even though I have almost the entire romset for the mame build I have (.141), its still too daunting to have 19,000 games to pick from. Anyone have any example game lists in MaLa format?

I just went through the exercise of buying a lamp, starter and replacement line filter for a noisy florescent on a ms pac.  just go get the $8 undercab 18" fluorescent at the hardware store and have done.

Why isn't your garage full of pinball machines?

Why isn't your garage full of pinball machines?

Can't afford the free shipping from San Antonio, Texas :)

Ok, so I pulled the guts from another computer I had sitting around, Athlon X2 6400+ 4,GB of Ram, 500GB HD, and an Nvidia 9800GT and a Corsair 520W PS; should run mame and the Taito games just fine. Not sure I can get SFxT running at a low enough res to play on the arcade monitor haven't bothered to try yet. I got all that mounted to the slide out board from the Dynamo cab along with the Jpac.  I couldn't find a good way to mount the DVD drive to I screwed it into the hard drive bracket and covered it with electrical tape for aesthetics. I already have MaLa and most of the game lists made, I can always RDP into the machine for additional changes over the network.

enough jibber jabber, here's more pix:

The Dynamo slide board:

Power supply mounted:

motherboard stand offs installed:

motherboard installed (w/giant HSF):

hard drive mounted (using a USB case frame, hey, its all I had):

Stand offs for the Jpac, doubled up in height:

everything installed:

everything installed, different view:

Now the power strip is held in with a cable hook (plastic hook with a nail in it) over top the cord. the screws just keep it from sliding around. It will be laying on its back so I don't for-see it moving at all. I used extra screws to "box it in place" I'm not dumb enough to put a screw through a power cord , heh.   Next step is making sure all this works in the cab, then I redo the sides and order new buttons and T molding.

I might have a bracket for you at the house so you don't have to use electrical tape on the CD drive. Remind me when I'm not being lazy and I'll take a look as well as get you some connectors.

got the bracket, no more electrical tape, heh. No pix of that yet, I'm waiting for the EDID dongle from germany. So I pulled the buttons and plexi from the CPO:

Gotta figure out a way to drill a new 7 button template per player, prolly cut most of that out and hope the plexi can support the buttons :/

WOW, so this cabinet has been retro-Fitted a few times.    Its like mice have been eating though that thing.
Personally id leave what you can.   Perspex sitting even on this will be strong enough to support button mashing  ( unless you have LEAD  hands )

So had to go to Lowe's to get a new filter for my fridge, so I figured I'd snag some plexi while I was there.

2 sheets was $48 and the guy was nice enough to do multiple cuts without giving me much grief, and he actually cut straight lines.  He wouldn't/couldn't do the angles of the CP, so I bought a plastic cutting knife for $5. Since I had 2 extra CP plexis cut, I might just take one over to my grandpas shop and have him cut it on a table saw, although my cut wasnt too shabby. I'm prolly gonna run the dremel along the end so its more flush.

Guess I need to hire snake to do some artwork or something.

new plexi screen and marquee:

Control panel:

and another ISO shot:

next up, casters and fixing up the sides.

scroll down to the bottom if you want to see how I retrofitted my panel. It's the same situation you're in.

Great job on that, that's going to be my last resort. I think I can just acrylic over the Swiss cheese, but if it doesn't hold, I'll do that.

In other news, EDID dongle shipped 4 days ago, according to the email I got from arcadeshop.de  Ive asked SNAAAAAKE to do the art, I'm waiting on a template so I can get the drilling done. KI2 marquee can be a place holder for the top. Once he sends the template I'll drill the holes and mount the buttons/sticks and see how it holds up. I wanna use him but if I dont get the template by tomorrow I'll PM someone else

naw, nothing like what you have, I just wanted to light the "stickholes" blue to match the buttons and what not. You set the bar WAAAAYYYYYYY too high when it comes to lighting a cab up =)

oh yeah, my EDID came in, weut!

Re: The unnamed Dynamo

so I used my KI machine to make the button template:

then I did the same for player 2. I put the plexi back on the panel and marked off what needed to be trimmed. I ended up taking a hand saws-all and trimming the metal back. then I wrapped it in black leather texture vynil (mostly just to cover the butchered panel) as a place holder till I figure out the artwork.

I think it turned out rather well:

I also bought casters but they can wait until tomorrow or later in the week, my back hurts from crouching over for almost 2 hours to get the panel squared away.

so yeah umm DVI to VGA adapter, EDID dongle, VGA cable:

still cant get soft15 to install :/

so I put one of the sticks in:

same p360 stick, just different shaft.

I also uncovered the plexi for the monitor, need to make a new bezel still though, old one looks like crap.

so in light of soft 15 not working (and no response from Sailor Sat) , I may be putting a different PC in there running XP with a 6800GT card (no dongle required) should still be plenty enough to run most MAME games, we'll see. Cant wait to mount a different PC, wheeeeee

Project looks great so far!
I have two of those cabs and love them.
FYI you can squeek a 27" crt in that cab hanging off the factory mounts.

spent a while yesterday rewiring that rats nest of a control panel:

moved the jpac to its new location:

and, the one thing I thought was going to go smoothly, didnt:

I think I need to bridge the hsync and vsync to C sync ; cant wait to blow up this monitor

Needs more tuner spray...
filled it with blinker fluid, then rebooted 3 times:

actually it was a resolution issue, this WG 25K7171 hates a TON of resolutions and Im gonna hafta go through and remove a bunch of them from soft15.  Ive had quite a few arcade monitors and this is the one I like the least by a lot.

so fired up KI2 just to see...... wait that's not right....

stupid "stretch using hardware" was on!

a lot of collapse at the top of the screen, its not like that when playing PCBs, wtf is up with 7171s?!

here's the PC, no DVD drive cause I dont need one. totally different computer than what I started with. This is a core2duo 2.6GHz per core (E5200 cpu) and 4 GB of RAM running windows XP Pro SP3:

here's a pretty good shot of the wiring, I ended up having to redrill the green button's hole and moving it up about 3 inches, where it was at you couldn't hit it from the inside:

I think it turned out rather well.

sadly I adjusted that pot, it made the top worse one way and the bottom worse the other way, I think this 22 year old monitor (looked at the manufacture date sticker, lol)  needs some new caps :/

CP art will prolly go on tomorrow Im trying to get some Diablo 3 time in before the power goes out

so CPO is installed, took a freekin HOUR

pinned it between the plexi and the CP:

cut the holes: (and trimmed the corners)

tada!

I think I need new P1 and P2 start buttons:

so other than making my mala skin and layout (and making more game lists) the cab is pretty much done. Only took a month! Now I can get back to work on my racing cab!
