So it turns out that I have a Joust cabinet.
« on: July 22, 2015, 02:30:46 pm »
So, I have this WWF Wrestlefest arcade machine. I haven't done anything to it yet, as I originally got it in a lot deal and I didn't especially want it. However, the machine was the only one of the lot that was actually working, but needing some monitor adjustments, and it has been sitting while I work on other projects. I start to think about putting it on Craigslist to let someone else restore or convert it to another JAMMA game, but then I get curious about the bezel art that doesn't match the rest.

So now I am wondering what to do with this game? Is it worth it to convert it back to Joust? Or should I just kick it down the line to the next guy that might want it more?

Way better than throwing a 60 in 1 in it, or a computer so he can play all the latest NES SNES and Genesis games on it. It's not like it's actually a working Joust, after all.

Even if you wanted to go straight Joust, this is probably the most reliable way to do it.

I guess that I need to drill the back lock and see what remains in the back of the original system. Then I can make a more informed decision on where to go with it.

You want the WWF WrestleFest Boards?

All right, if I sell the boards, I will let you have first dibs. Oddly enough, some folks on KLOV want the boards as well. I had no idea that the game was that popular.

Put CoinOpS in there and call it a day.

I never heard of that before, what is it?

kids born in the late 70s and early 80s grew up on the wrestlers in the game. I don't have as deep of pockets as the guys on KLOV so if you end up selling it to one of them I'll totally understand.

I will try to get it open tonight then and see what the situation looks like. Like I said though, I will give you first dibs on it over some random KLOVers. It's the least that I can do for all the help that you have given me over the past year.

+1 on the Multi-Williams. That's definitely a setup on my own list.  What all did you get in this deal anyways?  The Nintendo, a Pac, and then just this?

and this WrestleFest in a Joust Cabinet.

It wasn't a bad lot, but other than the WrestleFest, I had no idea of the condition of the games before I bought them.

Sadly, nothing got done last night as we had a big thunderstorm come through the area.

Anyone know what bit I should use to drill through the lock?

I know it's tempting to think, 'the tumblers are brass, any old drill bit I can fit into the hole ought to do it,' but the truth of the matter is you will need to special order a lock bit.  Unfortunately, they're quite expensive and generally require you to be a licensed and bonded tradesman before the shops will sell them to you.  Maybe you can get lucky on a Friday afternoon in a small town if you are willing to pay cash and dress the part.

Ive drilled through many a door lock with these: http://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-Titanium-Pilot-Point-Drill-Bit-Set-14-Piece-DW1354/202019930

alternatively, you can reach through the back (assuming its held on with 2 drywall screws like every cab Ive ever bought) and just take the back off the cam lock

Unfortunately, this is the only cabinet that I have ever bought where the back panel is actually being held in place by the lock. Although there is a hinge that I might be able to remove, so I need to take a closer look at that.

Never heard of that and never used one.  Have drilled plenty of locks.  Start at 1/8" bit, use a bit of oil, and work your way up till it pops.  Usually takes me less than 2 min to bore out a lock and the bits don't even get hot or damaged.  Dunno.

a good high speed steel (HSS) bit will make short work of the lock.

So I opened up this cabinet last night and got to look around. It turns out that this was done with a legit kit. They removed all the wiring, replaced it with a new harness, and left some NOS stickers and manual in the bottom of the cab.

Unfortunately not for this. I didn't have my ipad on me and if I used my camera phone it would have looked like Bigfoot was holding them.  ;D

I will try to to take some tonight. I have a semi-local guy that wants just the cab to convert it to Joust, so I will take some pics of it then after I remove the PCB.
