Problem with new 60-in-1 PCB
« on: April 25, 2015, 02:04:40 pm »
I'm having an issue with a new 60-in-1 PCB board..

I’m testing the board and all the control leads using “I/O test”

All the wire pinouts appear ok, except Player 1:

1)   Red wire #18 (Part side) triggers both “P1-UP” and “P1-Left”,

                  and

2)   Yellow wire #20 (Part side) triggers both “P1-Left” and “P1-UP”.

This isn’t  a harness issue, as I removed the harness from the board, and  tested these two wires with an ohm meter, and they are not shorted.

Unless it’s a programming issue, I wonder if the board is shorting the two some where?

Any ideas?

Thank you!

Well the first thing I would check is if the voltage from the power supply is ok and then make sure you wired the ground up correctly.

I found this on the board... which is a short between two pins soldered on PR4 (resistor pack?).

I sort of doubt this would be intentional unless someone screwed up on the board design and this was a quick fix..

Thanks for the reply. Power supply voltages are ok...  Everything else appears to work so far. I get video/sound.. all other I/O tests work. Just this one issue.

I was lucky.... I found that short on the resistor pack... remove it... everything works now for player 1-UP and player 1-Left

Picture after I removed the short.

It is obvious this board was not tested.. this could never have worked correctly.... anyways.. glad it works now.

Maybe someone who has a board available can look at theirs and see if the soldering is the same in that spot you noticed.

Edit: nice work! Glad you were able to get it working.

Thanks RetroGreg.. I had more boards coming.. but I took a chance (despite it being micro-work), removed the short, and it works correctly now.

I have to say I never thought I'd use my PC microscope before to repair PCB's... but it sure came in handy for this.

Also I didn't want to have to return the board..

Nice job!!! A lot of people, such as myself, would have never figured that out.  :applaud:

I guess we need to be careful when using these boards.  I bought a 19n1 two months ago that I have yet to test....I need to get on that.

It is obvious this board was not tested.. this could never have worked correctly.... anyways.. glad it works now.

They don't even test the whole cabinets that they put together with those boards in it. I have done service calls to two Chinese built 60 in 1 cocktails and neither one of them had the player 2 side even wired up.
