Earning The High Score Badge: An Overview

With less than a week ago, I wanted to go over a few of the badges to give you guys an idea as to how you're in them. Some are self-explanatory, so me and by virtue of being there, but others you have to actively seek out.

The high score badge is pretty easy to earn, and is one that I saw on another site (thanks, Brother FrizzleFried). A bunch of guys from his site got together at CAX last year, and when they got a high score, they used the initials for his site. They then took a picture of it and posted it on his site for the virtual  badge. Although I am handing out physical badges, I'd still like to do it the same way.

To earn it, all you have to do is this: get the highest score on any game, and for your initials, put in BYO, in reference to this site. If you get the high score, you earn it outright. If you get your initials on the machine but it's not the high score, you need to do it 3 times in order to get the badge. What I'd really love to see is on Saturday or Sunday, a whole bunch of BYO high scores, and people asking "Who is this BYO guy?"

To prove that you have done it, either I need to be there with you when you're entering the initials as your high score, or you need to post a photo of your high score in the official thread. Either way, once you satisfy the criteria, I'll give you the sticker for your badge.

Remember, this is all optional and for fun. You don't have to play along if you don't want to, but I think it's a lot of fun.

All I need is a list of the games that will be there that have no nvram and that will be turned off at night. Maybe then I can snag a 9:03 AM top spot. My credo: "My best can first, even if my best can't last"

If you get your initials on the machine but it's not the high score, you need to do it 3 times in order to get the badge.

3 on the same machine, 3 different machines, or mix and match? If we can spread 'em, becoming the all-around worst of the best gives me something to strive for.

Having said that, it's not a hard-and-fast rule. The stickers have been printed out, and I want to hand them out like candy.

For those of you that are Bump N' Jump fans, I took my ROM burner to Jawhn's house and we burned some custom ROMS to allow it to have freeplay. So it's gonna be at ZapCon. Whoo!

Ok, so it sounds like the official garb for ZapCon is going to be t-shirts and jorts. Make sure you dress appropriately for the photo!
I'm just chuffed that because of VWbus's offhand comment, at least 3 of us now will be wearing jorts to ZapCon. Manly jorts, too, not the cut-off kind!

I say 3 different machines.

Only game I was ever good at was Gyruss (maybe Cabal with a good second player), so I don't know if I will make the badge.

Ok, so it sounds like the official garb for ZapCon is going to be t-shirts and jorts. Make sure you dress appropriately for the photo!

I think jorts are an American invention as I find no evidence of there existence locally...you just might be getting cutoffs, short enough to see my pockets  :laugh2:

Nexusmtz has the right idea... game the system by jumping on machines early, before people put high scores on the machines.

That's what I'm doing to get that badge or spend a bunch of time on an unpopular game. For as much time as I spend playing games, I'm not really that good.

OK, so I know the story behind the white flip flops (make sure you take a pic of everyone standing in them with their ankles crossed), but where did the jorts come from?

Vwbus asked if he should wear cut-off jean shorts. It just kind of snowballed from there.

Soldering up my EasyCoinUps for the cabinets that don't have free play. A little birdie told me you might see one of these as a gift in the SwagBag....

Those looks awesome.  I could use one for my Thunder Blade.  Although it does already have a free play option in the dip switch settings, it disables the flashing start button.  I think it looks cool flashing so I usually coin up by opening the door.

How exactly do they work?  My guess is that they are wired directly to the coins's microswitches; which is what I need.  I already have Adam's 1Up mod on my Arkanoid cocktail (http://onecircuit.com/CoinUp) but this may be simpler.

P.S. - My fiancee found white flip flops for me.  Not sure if I'm wearing them yet, we'll see.     I don't mind the Jorts thing though.  My legs aren't pasty white and I tan well, so...

Side note, my wired lav mic broke this week while shooting.  I had just gotten it, so it must have been defective.  I returned and bought a new one and got another backup brand just in case.  Long story short, I'm glad it happened now rather than out at Zapcon.  I also decided to bring my Go Pro so that I can set it up for some time lapse shots.

I'm pumped!

I'll post some photos when I show you guys my SUPAR SEKRET ZapCon project..  but yeah, it's a pretty easy setup.

Glad to hear that about the mics. Bad audio can kill good video.

Cargo shorts are for Friday and Sunday. Saturday is Jorts Day.
I'm wearing cargo jorts.  The best of both worlds.

Lucky bastard. I couldn't find any at a reasonable price in the amount of time I had.
