Minicade bartop
« on: January 31, 2015, 01:20:53 pm »
Just finished my fourth build, a minicade bartop.

I had a lot of hardware laying around and decided to make a really small bartop.
The bartop had to be small but big enough for a intel Mini itx board and a 12"monitor.
I wanted a big button look so I used Sanwa OBSN-30 buttons

I searched for a nice design on the internet and found the verticade. I scaled down the side dimensions to 35x35 cm and the rest
of the woodwork I cut while I was working on it...

This is the result:

The hardware I used:

intel Mini itx  Atom 230 1.6ghz,
1 gb ram, onboard 256 mb vga,
120 gb ssd, white led light in marquee and green underneath the cabinet
Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT joystick (the best!) and Sanwa OBSN-30 buttons
12mm MDF and 12mm T-Molding black
a cheap Zero Delay Arcade USB Encoder PC to Joystick
an old pc speakerset
a small usb hub

The frontend I used is Mala, OS is windows 7, and it runs really well!
At the moment only Mame is installed.

I like the bottom lighting, this looks like the cab is hovering on the table and as soon as you look away, it will be zipping around the room  ;D

here some pictures from the back:

just some led strips that can be controlled by two LED Light Dimmer Controller units, one for the marquee and one for the bottem.

in the front there are two usb connections and a volume control.

Quality build!  Reminds me of the old tabletop arcade machines from way back when; only better!

Do you have any details on how you wired up the monitor to the video output of the board?

Also, since it's portable, do you have any plans in the future to include an HDMI port so that it can be hooked up to an external HDTV?

Again, awesome work!

there was already a vga adaptor on the lcd screen, so I could just plug it into the vga of the mb, that hdmi port is a great idea!

I'd like to know more about the touch screen'edness of this monitor.

Are you playing any touchscreen games?

I could not get the touchscreen to work  so I removed the module from the back of the screen to save some space
in the cabinet, it is really small inside...
But because it is a touchscreen I did not have to use glass or acryl on the front of the cabinet
to protect it.

What version of MAME are you running, how do the early 80's era games run on it?
