Hello...I'm new to the comm. I've been here a time or two as a guest for ideas on my cabinet(s) I'm working on...I stumbled on Saint's book at B&N and bought it...just got done reading it and I'd have to say a job well done. It was great finding some of the answers I needed in there...

so great job on the book...and i'm sure i'll be in and out of here quite a lot as I build my cabinet(s)

I was recently given an old control panel from a Cyberball 2072 cabinet. I got what I considered at the time to be a crazy idea, and wired the thing into an old keyboard that I happened to have so I could use it with MAME on my computer. Little did I realize at the time that there are plenty of folks out there with the same crazy idea! So anyway, I've got the CP close to finished, and then I discovered this site! Too bad I didn't know about it last week.

In any case, I had never even heard the term keyboard encoder before I discovered this site. I was just wondering what the advantages using an encoder have over just wiring the controls directly into a keyboard. Anyone care to enlighten me?

By the way, I'm just curious, I have no intention of ripping this thing apart and starting over. This was just a little project that I did for kicks using some spare bits that I had around the house.

Thanks
-S

In fact, I did rip the thing apart and start over, building a full cabinet. I'm such a lying, liar, liepants.

MC you got a bit of brown on your nose.

I bought the book to support Saint back in whenever 2004 or 05 whenever it was. Not a bad read. Needed more pics for us to color though.

Totally agree the next book needs more dot to dot puzzles and coloring pages.

Is it done yet?

Happy new year bishes!  I hear this arcade thing is really going to take off in the next few years.  Can't wait - I heard the Soviets or CIA or somebody have been working on something called Pong and it is supposed to be groovy I tell you!

Man, good times.  Woooho!

I have a 20" TV with composite (RCA style cable) and the picture looks fine running mame (640x480 stretched) I have my mortal kombat machine running right beside my MAME cabinet and the difference in picture inst that astounding

Unless you have a Marvel VS SF machine sitting right beside your mame cab, your not going to notice a significant difference.

I am hacking a Hewlett Packard multimedia keyboard for an interface.  Does anyone know of a site where I can find the keyboard matrix for this?  (I'm lazy and don't feel like mapping it out.)

Thanx...  :)

Never hacked that keyboard.  Still a slacker, tho.   :applaud:

I'm gonna change things up and post my last message. I had to jump in a DeLorean to retrieve this message from the future.

I finally finished my latest project and it will most likely be my last. I am glad I invested in that 38.74ghz holocron cube, because it definitely plays Gauntlet Legends at 97% speed on mame 0.389. Too bad Hyperspin 2.0 still isn't released yet, I was really looking forward to trying it out. Still, the grandkids, Master and Blaster, love their new Urkelcade.

It's been a good run, but I think it is time to retire from the hobby. If anyone needs to chat, just give me a call via ComLink. Oh, and PinballJennifer, no matter what anyone says, the sex change was definitely the right decision, especially since you were able to fund it from $5 Amazon gift cards haggled from hapless customer service reps.

DOS/WinCab / Re: starting wincab when computer starts
« on: August 27, 2006, 10:37:52 pm »
Hello, Im new to this forum, so please excuse me if Im butting in here.
I wrote a program in VB6 that will start Glaunch (a emulator front end), then shut down the PC when Glaunch is exited.
Since it is written in VB6, it only works in win 98 to win XP.
It is called Glauncher.
Take a look at it, if it is what you may be looking for, let me know, I can easily modify it to run something besides Glaunch, such as wincab. (Or at least I think I can).
If you dont have Glaunch, just create a small bat file called Glaunch.exe.
Glauncher has to have Glaunch.exe to work.
The temp bat file could just have an exit command in it. It will give you an idea how it works.
Here is the website that describes it, with a few screen shots. This program is free.

My first post I came on strong with creations I wanted to share, Thats DaOld Mans style. Now get off my lawn, you young hooligans.

I'm happy my first post was in the Game competition #5: Robotron thread.  Legit!

Awesome! Robotron is by far my favourite arcade game!

We've got one of those Arcade Legends stand-ups here at work, and I was able to hit the 1,312,300 mark.
The downside to these cabs is that the joysticks are just Happs Competition sticks, with oval tops.  Sometimes in a heated battle, my hand slips off the joystick because of the way I hold the oval-top (as if I were holding a ball-top joystick).

pffft  1,312,300...that's barely even a warm-up now.  ;)

have a k7400 that was taken out of a somewhat working time crisis cabinet.... sometimes the monitor would stay off when powered up for about 10 mins, then decide to turn on. (couldn't tell if it was ticking or not since the cabinet is super loud) but removed it since the colors where smearing out.

replaced all the caps on the board, now cant get the board to power up (dead/Ticking),

isolated the power supply and it's still ticks

turned down the b+ a bit, a bit more, a bit more, still ticks.

switched out u101 and q101 still ticking...

not sure what else to check....thanks for the help in advance...

LOL...  ;D

I'll be putting this exact same monitor into the exact same time crisis cabinet which this first post came. ---goshdarn--- thing will be the bane of my existence.

new current post about it here  :P  http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,143821.0.html

First off I'd like to thank all of you, I'm just embarking on my life long dream to own my own arcade machine.  I've been lurking here for months reading old posts and learning a ton.  You have all helped me avoid a ton of mistakes I would have made.

Next up, since my interest in older games has flared up I am trying to identify a game I had only managed to play a handful of times.  It had a similar play style as "The Real Ghostbusters" arcade game from Data East in 1987 and was around the same time frame (at least when I played it).
http://www.gbfans.com/games/real-ghostbusters-arcade/

Only this game had more of a Castlevania / Van Helsing sort of feel to it.  I recall wandering around in spooky forests and such, shooting at monsters.

Any ideas?

I actually lurked on these forums on and off for years before finally creating an account.

In relation to my first post...I never did figure out what game my faulty memory was trying to recall....

Fellow Retrogamers,

I was wondering if anyone out there has created a Control Panel Layout template in Visio, Photoshop, or some other program.  My goal is to design an overlay on my own and then simply submitting it to a printing company so that they can print it up and I can slap it on my blank Slikstik CO2 panel.  Then I can begin putting controls into it.  Slikstik is charging a ridiculous amount of $109 for the overlay.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

DeLuSioNaL29
Ha, I can't believe I was considering a SlikStik product.  Glad I never pulled the trigger on that one!

I have both mag-stik plusses and ultra-stiks and I dropped my mag-stiks by the wayside as soon as I got my ultrastiks.

So are you saying I have nothing to look forward to here? Is my 4 way future not looking so bright? I mean I know very well that the ultra stiks 360's kick some royal hiney...But all I'm wanting here is a good 4 way stick and well...

Anybody else have an opinion of the Mag Stik Plus as a dedicated 4 way? You know I was thinking 4-8 way switchable from the top for convienience and flexibilty, but ultimately hoping for some pretty stellar 4 way action...You know what I'm sayin'?

My Mag Stik Plus is sitting at the post office and I gotta go get it tomorrow...I'll report back after I smack that thing around for a day or two...
