If this design didn't outsell others, they wouldn't keep making it.

These aren't built for us.  They're built for people who want to think they're getting the biggest and best of everything, but don't know anything about the product (the customers that yield the highest profit margins  ).  All they know is that they're getting a huge screen and thousands of games.

They look impressive from a distance.  Too bad you can't play them from a distance.
I think a 32" screen is too big, but more than a couple members here have been happy with that size.
I have a 27"er in my cab and when rotated vertically, I feel like I'm at a disadvantage sometimes while playing vertical shmups because I can't focus on the entire screen without moving my head around.

Like it or not (and probably not if it's your work included in the sale) it's been discussed on the HS forums and the claim to an agreement is legit.  Whether BBB has authority to grant use of others work... I don't know anything about how that all works.

I dunno.. doing a 32" cab after a couple 27" ones, I like the 32" better, I just want more height, so my next cab for me will likely be a 48-50" mounted vertically so I can get more height. 

I have been sidetracked playing Wasteland 2 on the PC lately, and my first thought after firing it up is "I need a bigger monitor".  My 24" for my pc gaming rig just isn't big enough. 

However, when I first got my 24" 9 years ago, my first thought was "this is too big" and I ended up pushing it as far back as I could get it so I could keep the full monitor in my view the whole time.  I have evolved a little since then though, and I can enjoy playing games on bigger screens, and in fact prefer it now.  At work I use 2 27" screens, and I wish I had 2 32" screens, if not 3 or 4. 

It is all about personal preference, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.  As for this monstrosity, I think it is overkill personally, but if someone wanted one and was going to pay me enough, I would build it for them.  It is better looking than a lot of 4 player machines with tiny little monitors that I have seen..

Just got to get back into a house so I can do something with it.

I seem to recall seeing something about plasmas not liking to be installed horizontally (as in, on a table).

Any truth to that?

A 42 would sure look like in a cab. Or maybe a pinball cab....

Not sure about the horizontal thing, I think that may have been on older models.  How old is the model?  Maximus installed one in his Marvel vs. Capcom Revolution 2.0 cabinet at an angle vertically.  He says it's fine, but I'm not sure how completely horizontal would affect it.

There are ways to reasonably use a 46" display.  The machine pictured has a 40" but larger would be OK. 



plasmas have been used for Virtual pin playfields many times, just need to provide ventilation.  A lot of those guys have 200mm fans on the back of the cabs for that reason.

Cool. I saw a number of threads that talk about older plasmas having issues with being laid flat, but this is, I believe, a 2008 or so model. So, reasonably new.

A pin playfield is likely where it'll go, but who knows!

A plasma that size is 4-500W I guess? Really a lot compared to a modern LED. Although, colors on a good plasma can be awesome, and the black level is typically much better than cheap LCDs as well.

Yeah colors are supposedly better, plus the viewing angle is fantastic on this thing. That's why I'm leaning toward pincab..

I have a 50" plasma in my living room.
it's warm to the touch but it isn't tossing off waves of heat.
It is only about 3yrs old though.

+1.  I have a Panasonic Viera 50" and although it does get warm (built in fan on the unit is quiet, but active) it is not excessively warm.  However, I do have it mounted on the wall with no enclosure hampering ventilation.

older 42 philips plasma here... still 1080 display, but old enough to have an actual glass in the display. thing is heavy as all hell. you walk by it and you can feel the heat radiating off it after about 10 minutes.

i replaced it with a 55" LED. near zero heat even being left on all day.

i would think mame games would look like pixilated ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- on a screen/tv monitor that big.....i have a 26" and i was worried that was too big but with scan lines and HMSL its pretty good picture for an lcd.

Exactly how far are you away from your monitors in order to even see the whole thing without moving your head to look at the whole screen?

also, 4k + $500 shipping for a mame cabinet that doesn't appear to have the grunt to play NFL Blitz or Legends?

I usually sit about 3 feet back from my screen(s).  I can be 2 feet from a 27" screen and see it all without moving my head, but I am not an owl, so my eyes certainly move.  I have just been conditioned to notice movements in the peripheral better than I used to, and I can still play games that require me reacting to things all over the screen.. The bigger the screen, the more immersive the game because the less of your peripheral is taken by the room/bezel/walls/everything else..  Granted, for old school arcade games you don't need it, but keep in mind, at 32" you are getting about 15" of height, so pacman looks like it is on about a 21" vertical crt on a screen like that.  Not exactly overly sized. 

I am not defending the 46" in this post, just that the width does fit the CP better so it looks more to scale (albeit a little fat).  That 46" will have about the same size pacman screen as the 25th anniversary edition has, so it isn't like it is really all that huge.  Personally I wouldn't use that big of a screen horizontally, but turned vertically with the top and bottom blocked off so I could have a 22" x 22" screen to work with for mame is not really all that crazy to me.  Add in some graphical bezels and you are actually doing really well for size..

Probably.  Way back when I had my panel CNC'd by ArcadeRFun.  They do great work, but they tend to cater to Frankenpanels.  That said, the owner, Jack, is a great guy!

My cube is so small two 32 incher's probably wouldn't fit on my desk.
I want to work where you do.

I have a 22" TV for my main monitor at home & it is probably as big as I want to go.
I prefer to sit closer to everything so I can have lots of really small text on the screen when it comes to spreadsheets and other stuff.

I just don't find this cabinet aesthetically pleasing.
It looks short & fat plus the screen is way to close to the cp.
I much prefer the pedestal style for larger screens.

I very-much like the idea of a vertical 32" with marquee at top & controls at the bottom in the blank spots, however, it's an awful lot of work to create the layout files for mame in order to do that.

lol, it depends, are they 17" crts? 

When I get to doing website maintenance or using spreadsheets for tracking data, two screens, even 2 27" screens, isn't enough.  I tend to have between 6 and 15 programs open at once, and I would love to have them all spread out.  Plus my vision has been getting worse over the years, so running at 1200 lines (or 1080 on the newer screens) just isn't a great idea, so I run my 27's at 900 lines and usually run my web browser at 125% to boot.  It is too bad that windows 7 scaling doesn't work across the board or I would just run at max res on everything and use scaling to make text bigger. 

Ideally I am thinking 6 27" screens, 3 wide, 2 tall would be great.. A couple on separate KVMs for when I am staging a new PC, and maybe run one of the uppers with network and server stats all the time so I can see at a glance how the entire company is performing.. Maybe someday, but for now I am satisfied with 2 decently sized screens.

Beware though, once you get used to bigger screens, smaller just doesn't cut it.  When I go to movies now, if I get stuck in the smaller theater for a movie and sit halfway back, the screen looks smaller than my screen at home.. it is rather disappointing.

I run 2 LED IPS 22's and an old 19" 4:3 at home and sometimes I feel there STILL isn't enough room for everything. (mainly put system info and adjustments on the 19") i'd like to get another 2 22" for a 2x2 but they don't make that monitor any more and the difference in the panels would drive me insane, which means 4 new ones. AIN'T NOBODY GOT MONEY FO DAT! (well maybe some people do, but it sure as hell ain't me.)
