defender help
« on: October 09, 2014, 03:31:11 pm »
So a guy that I worked with at Sears just called me up and his defender monitor went out.
He asked me if I could put an LCD in it.

I know an LCD will be dumb in it but he will pay me and I'm poor.

So how could I go about converting it to an LCD??
Is it even possible?

It is a Williams defender 1985 or whatever he said.

2nd on the fix it. If the guy really really likes the game and is good at it, he'll hate the converter and lcd screen since some lag will now be introduced by converting and using the lcd.

good day.

First off fixing the crt is the best way (as was already said by others)

If you're gonna use a typical lcd computer monitor, you will need to find a way to mount it without it looking like crap and you will need a converter like Automark already said.

If you are gonna use an lcd, to do it right (as right as an lcd on a classic game can be), use something like this:

I'm just going to tell him it can't be converted and suggest he gets it fixed. it will look dumb with an LCD in it and ruin the whole originality.

When he said he wanted an LCD I said "why don't u just mame it?"(explaining what mame does/is)
He says ("no I want to keep it original") :lol

So seems like too much work too ruin a defender for the probably 20 bucks he would have gave me.

Thanks for the input.

If it can't be fixed, why not just replace it with a standard used CRT TV? What size are the original screen? 19"?

Personally, I'd have to know what the actual problem with the monitor is first.  If it's something simple, I'd keep it.  If it's more involved and costly to fix, I'd replace it.
