For those of you that use this, how does it feel on games like pacman where you need a true physical 4 way restrictor?

In 4-way it has a very good response with games that require a 4-way joystick, in 8-way with games requiring an 8-way joystick i have seen better joysticks.

I
  • It's switching capability between 4-way and 8-way is very good.
  • The operational feel when using it sucks.

It depends what you want more. This stick has good and bad. If you play many 4-ways, I might recommend it. If you play many 8-ways, I wouldn't get it.

I haven't tried any other joysticks on the market to offer a comparison, but I'm happy with these.

I've been successful playing 4 way (Donkey Kong), 2 way (Joust), 8 way (Robotron) and even 4 way diagonal (Q*Bert) when in 8 way mode, without issue.

I've been able to score 200k+ on Donkey Kong, 600k on Q*Bert,  and as a bad Robotron player back in the day, I've been able to score over 1 million with the magstik plus sticks.

I agree.  The throw is just too shallow.  I bought 2 and before I even installed them I decided to switch to Ultimarc Servo Sticks.  They are really nice.

I can't think of a single game that would take advantage of a 4-way stick in the player 2 position.  What are some examples?

Trog, Tank Force, Wizard of Wor.  Anything that might require navigating a maze.

Besides 2P games requiring the second 4 way, I like to set up both of my sticks to be used as player 1 for games such as Donkey Kong, Galaga, Ms Pac Man, etc. to give people options.

I second most comments here,  Pretty good in 4 way mode, just meh in 8 Way mode.  I won't be changing mine out anytime soon though. If you haven't already purchased and you want the 4/8 way switching then look into servosticks. Although others will have to advise on it's 4/8 way feel.

I've got two Magsticks in my setup. As others have said it's great for 4 way and ok for 8-way, but not excellent. I love the switching mechanism, which works well.

My gripe is that they feel a bit clunky. I don't know if it's wear or if I didn't put them together properly after taking them apart to install them (you have to take the stick apart to mount them), but the handle on my sticks feel 'loose' when moving, despite the short throw.

They're also corner happy which makes them not too good for Robotron.

I'd like to switch them out for Servostiks at some point, but I'm reluctant to pull apart a fully working control panel, plus I'm not sure there's enough room under the panel for the servos, as it's a small panel.
