joystick issue.
« on: March 01, 2014, 04:43:34 pm »
I have a metal control panel.

it's a dynamo cut corner panel.

i have zippy joysticks.

mounting plate won't match up to the holes on the control panel, it's too narrow of a mounting plate.

I'm frustrated as I thought I was going to be able to hook these up today.

anyone else have this issue with joy stick mounting? how do I fix it?

The control panel is metal. I do not have a drill, not do I want to drill the panel. I'd like to just modify the sticks.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

Something like this would probably be what you're looking for.  However they are out of stock.   :-\

The same guy (owner) of paradise arcades is the guy that started the kick starter project. :-)

If you don't mind losing a little joystick height, you could just mount the stick to a piece of say... 1/2" plywood/mdf/material of your choice, then mount that to the control panel. Kind of like what I did here.

Two things to piggyback on this idea:

1. If the mount holes are too close to each other, turn the joystick 90 degrees.

2. For a shallower mount, you can use this method (pictured below) minus the white hardboard cover/Bondo/spackle and add 4 holes for the carriage bolts to make an adapter board or you might be able to use a 1/8" hardboard or 1/4" MDF adapter board if you use countersunk screws/nuts to attach the stick to the underside of the adapter board and carriage bolts/nuts to attach the adapter board to the CP .

I thought about making a 2 or 3 layer cardboard adapter since i don't have metal or woodworking tools. I went ahead and ordered some happ competitions because they looked like they'd probably fit and it's a dynamo (american cab) and the holes look like they'll fit. So close yet so far from getting the cab at least playable. :(

Hopefully those Comps will work out for you.

A cardboard adapter isn't going to work for long if it works at all.

You can do 90% of the adapter plate with a drill and the rest with a utility knife if you really have to.

If the Comps don't work and you can't make an adapter plate, the alternative is to wait for Paradise to restock on the universal plates.   :dunno

P.S. Be careful about those "no woodworking tools" comments, you might get your Man Card pulled for that kind of talk.   :laugh2:
EDIT: Thought they were out of stock.   :dunno

I've made some adapters in the past for mounting zippyys in where happs once were. They were pretty ugly underneath but did the trick.
You can use a 4" electrical box cover like this http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/electrical/boxes/covers-accessories/4-square-box-cover-flat-1-2-knockout-center
and a drill and make an adapter.

just keep in mind for the future that all joystick mounting patterns are not the same.
Happs, Il, Crowns and Sanwa JLWs have the same basic mounting

seimitsus, zippyys and Sanwa JLFs have the same basic mounting pattern

If there's clearance, could you not just drill more holes in the joystick's mounting plate?

the mounting plate is too narrow. it's not a square like the happs are i guess, it's a rectangle like the sanwas, i guess?
