mounting the pc

I'd prefer to not remove the pc from the desktop and screw it directly to the wood because i'm too lazy for that honestly. I'd also prefer not to do it the right way with standoffs because I'm also too lazy. I figure the pc is in the case and I might as well just keep it that way - less work. That said... has anyone found a way to securely mount a desktop pc case (crappy dell that I got free) inside the cab so it doesn't rattle around or fall over if someone bumps the cab?

second...If I did mount the pc directly to the wood, it wouldn't hurt anything I assume? I've done this before with no ill effects.

you could always drill a few holes through the bottom of the case and bolt it down.

Lazy version PC mount = pipe strap + fender washers + screws.

Fender washers let you get the screws as close as possible to the case and still turn the screwdriver.



If you want it removable, use threaded inserts.

On the builds where I used the whole PC, I made a shelf for it to sit on, then 4 blocks, 1 front, one back, and on either side of the PC case. (low profile blocks, like 1 X 2 inches)
Then a wood brace across the top. This keeps the PC from shifting even while transporting the cabinet with it laying down on its back.
But this may not be a good method for one who is lazy at heart.

the tv board is already screwed straight to the wood lol. maybe the dell pc has a tray insdie, the case is real heavy for a desktop. I've cracked it open before I just don't remember if it had a removable tray or not.

Anyway, for my powersupply I used something similar as what DaOld Man described: 4 L-brackets, one for each exposed side, each in a different corner. Works great, you just need to use bigger brackets, or pieces of wood for a full computer case. But if you are really lazy why not just place the PC as in inside the cab. I placed my subwoofer unsecured on four spikes in my cab. I can move the cab just fine (it has wheels), only if I want to tilt it do I first have to uncouple the sub and remove it.

I use that stuff to hold hid ballasts (flat on ram air covers) and igniters (vertical on my custom speedo bracket) on my street bike. Both held incredibly well. Crashed a few times without them budging. However, you have to be real careful when separating that you don't take both Velcro strips with each other.

Industrial Velcro is now holding my apex boost controller to the custom no-radio gauge panel on my rx7. Good stuff.

Sure it can, if you put the cab on its side for maintenance/moving/etc.

I was thinking that for whenever i eventually get a house... the moving... but i guess at that point i cna just remove the pc and reinstall it. lol no big deal right
