Where to buy mini trackballs?
« on: August 03, 2013, 01:56:56 pm »
I am looking for some mini ones. Like the ones dubbed "pimple trackballs" on crapmame. 1 1/2? I saw that happ makes one for about a million bucks (million and a half including shipping.) I saw the 2 1/4 one on paradise arcade, but I'd like to go smaller if I could.

Like those trackballs on mobile phones?

USA or UK?

not that small! I was looking at 1 1/2 but can't find anything other than the happ one. I might have to hack a mouse, but if there's any other options I'd like to hear them first!

Check industrial suppliers - you're wanting like a kiosk sized trackball right?

http://www.nsi-be.com/pointing-devices/laser-trackball-modules/infra-red-50-mm-trackballs/

have to give them a call, I'm sure it's stupid expensive.

maybe one of those kinsington expert trackball mice would work, just have to build a mount.

is it for games or as an admin mouse? I have 2 1/4 one and I think its too small unless your a very casual player.

this would be for games, for children. Quality of some importance, but arcade-authenticity not a big deal.

I can get you the 1.5 for less than happ sells it.  But it's still high, for the money the 2 1/4 is soo... Much cheaper & not that much bigger if you can fit in in.  Mount it w/o the mount & it takes up a very small footprint.

I carry both ultimarc & happ items, all brand new & I ship from the united states. My online store is ARCADEEMULATOR.NET, pm if I can help in anyway.

The Happ one is too stiff IMHO and way too expensive
I've used a traxsys 38mm trackballs an a few smaller projects and they're awesome
I got em on ebay when they came up for $25-35

let us know if you find a source I wouldn't mind a couple more

I tried hacking one of the older Kensington Orbits into a bartop; I couldn't come up with a way to make it work. Couldn't mount it properly.

Image attached of the kind I tried. This site has photos of the guts of one of the newer ones: http://www.hackvandedam.nl/blog/?p=371

I have one of these that I have bought from goodwill with the thought of using for a mini trackball cab project. Might be a good option.

http://www.amazon.com/toys-games/dp/B004S572PE

I'm not sure the size though, can measure when I get home if you would like.

I measured, and it looks like it is another 2 - 1/4 "

What is required to mod that Golden Tee tv trackball for use with a multi-cab?

Thanks,
Jason

I assume it would wire like any other arcade trackball without an encoder. It would either need to be hacked to a ball mouse, or connected to something like an opti wiz from ggg.

Oh, and I realized that the one I have is the radica golden tee, not the Jakks. But i think they are pretty much the same thing.

I got one of these on Ebay, and it looks to be awesome, but after wiring it up, both my MAC and my WIndows 8 laptop show it as a HID Input Device, but wont move the mouse pointer...  Mine is the "USB / PS2 Autosensing" version.  Is that what you used?  Does it work as a mouse, or is Mame going to see it as a trackball even though it's not being seen as a mouse?

Or, is it likely that even though USB seems to be working, my trackball is DoA?
Thanks,
Steve

I found a video a week or so ago on YouTube where a lady mouse hacked the Amazon Golden Tee trackball into MAME.  Seemed to be pretty straight-forward.  When I get home from work I'll dig up the vid again and post the link.
