I need a cheap video card that supports DirectX 9.0c
« on: April 04, 2013, 10:07:05 pm »
Here's the catch, I need it to be agp. Can I find this anywhere like best buy etc. or do I have to order online?

I'm getting this error with both my onboard video and an old Geforce 2 mx 100/200 on an old P4 computer.

"No suitable graphics card found. Could not find a Direct3D device that supports the XNA Framework Reach profile. Verify that a suitable graphics device is installed. Make sure the desktop is not locked, and that no other application is running in full screen mode. Avoid running under Remote Desktop or as a Windows service. Check the display properties to make sure hardware acceleration is set to full"

Hit up Ebay for this,  I would go for something like a sapphire 9600 Pro  Although being ATI  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
If my memory serves me correct ATI generally had the edge on everything else back in the AGP days.  Radeon 3650 or 4650,  Can your machine handle a full sized card or is it a small form factor unit?  I think the best card was the Radeon HD4670, you should be able to find them.

There are plenty of choices listed above anyway and all should do the job, Just a case of finding the cheapest I guess.

If i remember correctly, HIS was really one of the last companies to continue making AGP cards using newer chipsets. Still, post-modern AGP cards are pretty expensive these days.

For the price of a new one you can probably end up getting yourself a second hand rig that supports pci-x and ddr2. I built up an AMD X2 AM2 rig for mame a few months ago and it all cost me less than 60 dollars for a second hand mobo, CPU, GPU and ram.

Good advice -- Figure if you get a newer MOBO\CPU that includes a built in GPU on either the MOBO or in the CPU itself it will perform just as well if not better than the old AGP setup for about the same $ (AGP card prices are kept inflated due to scarcity) and it will also avoid the problems of figuring out the newest drivers that can be used since both ATI and Nvidia no longer support AGP in their newer drivers so you have to track down the older ones and many times they don't support some of the newer functions as well or at all causing more headaches !

+1 on the domino effect of using older hardware, however it you still would like to pursue this route, I will check my stash, I have tons of cards and I think I remember seeing a decent AGP. I will check when I get home this afternoon and will post my findings.

I think I've got a BFG Geforce 6800 AGP (maybe its a 4800?) you can have if you want it.

PM me.  I can drop it in the mail - unless you're close to Sacramento CA.

I was getting ready to throw it out this weekend....   lol
