Dumb Question - Is this Widescreen or not?
« on: March 13, 2013, 10:26:53 am »
Ok, I think I sourced out a 22" LCD monitor as opposed to a widescreen.  I'm thinking of getting it and using it for both horizontal and vertical games - I hope it works well.

I'm posting below the specs.  Since it doesn't mention 1920x resolution, does that mean that it's not widescreen?  Not sure how to tell otherwise  :timebomb:

1680 x 1050 resolution would be a 16x10 widescreen. for a non widescreen 4:3 display look for a native resolution that the first number divided by 4 then multiplied by 3 = the second number (ie. 4:3 resolution like 640x480 (640/4 = 160 X 3 = 480) , 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x960, 1360x1024, etc. )

Jesus, that sounds complicated. I figure by dividing the first number by the second number. 16/10=1.6, 1680/1050=1.6; 16/9=1.777, 1280/720=1.777; 4/3=1.333, 640/480=1.333. But maybe my way is complicated... :dunno

16:10 is actually better if you're stuck with widescreen.
You get a little bigger 4:3 image than you would with the same diagonal size 16:9 widescreen.

Some of the widscreen Taito Type X games run at 16:10 on my 16:9 monitor, so I have slight black bars on each side.
(I don't want it stretched)

If you're looking for a 22" 4:3 monitor though, that's not one.

+1.  It's widescreen. 16:10

Where exactly are you located?  I'm looking to unload some 4:3 LCD monitors that I had originally saved for MAME projects but no longer have the time to complete.  I have two 20.1" LCDs and four 17" LCDs.

PM me for details.  (Pics below).

For monitor resolutions, display names and aspect ratios I find this graph particularly useful.
Helpful to find an actual resolution when only given the dispaly name (WSXGA+, WSVGA etc)
Gives the aspect ratio of a particular resolution.
And provides a list of all the resolutions for a given aspect ratio.

If you're looking for 16:10 ratio it's listed as 8:5 in the graph.
Never argue with an idiot, he'll just drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.
