Learned my lesson with lube
« on: January 01, 2013, 07:50:00 pm »
When I installed my Sanwa JLWs, I lubed them up with some white lightning lithium grease ( or something like that ) from Home Depot.

Well the sticks have been a little sticky lately where they seem to be hanging up.
Last night the right one was getting real annoying.
The grease had gotten like congealed and rubbery.
Of course it was in the middle of a game night with my son.
So now I took out one stick last night (they're a little tough to get to) and cleaned all of the grease out.  Much better.

I guess I will get the lube that I've seen Randy recommend in another thread

Super Lube FTW per RandyT here.

Available at Harbor Freight or on Amazon.

The other option is Molykote 44.  It is chemically similar, but more expensive than Super Lube and used/recommended by Sanwa for lubing stick pivots IIRC.

For the Canadians,http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/browse/4/Auto/3/AutoFluidsChemicals/LubricantsPenetrants/PRDOVR~0280813P/Permatex+Ultra+Slick+Multi-Purpose+Synthetic+Grease%2C+85+g.jsp?locale=en. If you find the grease to be too thick, look into 100% silicone shock oil designed for R/C cars (ask for the thickest or heaviest weight they carry). It won't damage your plastics and just a dap should do ya.

If you're an RC car guy like me, 50k/100k silicone diff fluid works great.

Another of my hobbies is collecting G-Shock watches.  You can fill them with silicone diff fluid and make what they call a hydro watch.  I have done that with 2 of my watches and posted pictures in this threat.  It is post numebr one.

I concur, this stuff is pretty good. It's not as thick as the Japanese lube from Shin-Etsu, but it does seem to be more slippery.

Basically, yeah, you need to stay with a good silicone lube.
