Cup Holder
« on: April 17, 2012, 11:22:01 pm »
I know that this subject has been asked alot, but it always comes back to cheap looking plastic cup holders.

I am spending close to $1,000 building my bartop and I want it to look awesome.

I'm trying to decide on cup holders for the side panels.

I found these:
http://www.iboats.com/Attwood-Wire-Frame-Drink-Holders/dm/view_id.48301

Anyone see a stainless steel or chrome cup holder they like for their cab?

That's a sweet cup holder!  Don't want to get ring stains on that bartop eh?   ;)

I gotta think that cup holders hanging off the side of a bartop will look strange.

Yeah sounds awkward to me too.

That being said, I like the black molded plastic ones like spkywInt73 suggested about a million times more than the wire frame ones, but that's just personal preference.

A bar?

How about a set of these

But seriously, if you do go with mounted holders, I gotta second that set of molded black ones. The wire version looks pretty flimsy to me.

I've done wire and I've done plastic and I would recommend plastic.  The wire ones are usually a one size fits all where as the plastic you see can fit a variety of drinking containers.  From bottled beer to cans to copper mugs and mcdonalds large's, the plastic is the way to go.

If you're going to do it, go with the folding ones Vigo just pointed out.

These are the ones I use.
http://na.suzohapp.com/accessories/27142200.htm

I have those ones too.  Love 'em.  I can put my can of beer in there (which is the main use case), but if I'm gaming on a Saturday morning, it holds my coffee cup as well.  I even have a wine glass that sits perfectly in there, for Friday night bottles of red.

I love the polished chrome look of the metal cup holder. I hope they are not too flimsy.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Like the beer choice. Sunshine Wheat?

Am I the only one still wondering why the Bartop cab needs cup holders to hold your drink while you are playing on the BAR??????

Not all bartops sit on bars, people. I've got mine on a small table with not much room for drinks without reaching behind the machine. Plus, I think it looks cool.

I have mine on a kid sized Dora the Explorer table...  ;D  I still wouldn't put any cup holders on it though...  If it came down to it, I'd buy a bigger table!

Has anyone used one of the swingout cup holders like this one?

https://www.conversionvan.com/interior?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=193&category_id=17

I like that it folds out of the way when not in use, but it seems a little shallow, and maybe a little flimsy.

I like this, I have been thinking about cup holders but like many here, I don't like them hanging on the sides of the cabinet when not in use. One could rig up a button to a servo, to have it swing out and retract automatically.

was thinking about getting something like this to mount to my arcades:

or maybe one of these, though i'm a little worried that it might be more flimsy:

I have one of those on my Miata, screwed to the right side of the transmission tunnel, up against the passenger's left thigh.

Flimsy flimsy flimsy.

Always appears as if it's about to dump my drink, but never has, amazingly!

Even if it does work, I'd find it too cheesy to put on a cab.

I use a few bicycle frame water bottle cages, similar to these. You can get them in lots of different colors, & they're quite durable.

Look further up the thread at my pic, that's what I have on mine.  Holds a full pint glass, no problem, very sturdy.  Folds up nicely and looks good folded up.

Thanks for the link Haruman! I can also vouch for the sturdiness of the holders Haruman mentioned. I have the same ones and they are solid as a rock.
