Best way to fill metal cp holes?
« on: February 12, 2012, 11:57:43 am »
I would like to fill these before I put on a new overlay as cp will now be used for gun holster. Best method? Its on a virtua fighter 2. That thin sheet metal stuff.

JB Weld some sheet metal onto the bottom to brace the holes then bondo and fill the top.

What they said.  I'm finishing one up now.  On mine the epoxy I used to attach the backing plate failed on one hole so the bondo kinda squeezed out a little bit, but no harm.

Add some kind of backing material and bondo the front.  My Gals Panic II cab was heavily modded by a previous owner - brazed a galvanized steel outlet box cover to the back.  Ugly on the back, but smooth on the front.  JB Weld should work fine in this application, as there's no real load on the panel.

I have the same machine, I just had a new cp made... but I have the resources for that, so do what everyone else said.

I actually took the metal knock outs out of 4" electrical boxes and jb welded them in and then bondo'd. they help op great, even when drilling my new holes actually overlapped the filled holes

So when are you going to start sharing the wealth?  :bat  I've got metal that needs bending.  Plans... big plans.

Why not just leave the holes there and cover the overlay with plexi?

Hey, I would, if I knew the guys in the shop were competent enough to follow my design the first time! I don't have any problems at the plasma table, because well, I design what gets cut out, but they always ALWAYS screw up the bending! I had my CP made 3 times before it was right...

Thanks for the advice.  Going to weld and bond it.
