Cabinet choices
« on: December 06, 2011, 04:23:25 pm »
I am new to the arcade world and this forum so go easy on me. My name is Vince and i'm 28 from Houston Texas. I have been reading for the last 3 weeks on everything arcade related. I have found a guy on Houston Craigslist that has 3 empty cabinets for 50$ each. They are 3 different styles and would like some input on which one to get if any. Do I really need a 4 coin slot cabinet? I would really like to build a multi game cabinet.

A

B

C

If you got the room, go with C. I like the coin door on it better and has a large control panel to give you many options.

I would go with B or C as well. Just depends what coindoor you like better. The CPs are attached with 3 bolts, so it is really easy to build a custom CP and throw it on there.

Personally, I like the looks of the z-back (A) the most but it really comes down to what your plans are. Being that you're 28, I'm thinking you may be more into the fighters in which case you will probably want the more roomy control panel of B or C.
I would take C over B because it looks like its in better shape and the single 4 slot coin door looks better than the double coin doors

C +1.  I like dynamo cabs, but not the z-backs.  A big beefy CP is worth it so that you and your fat friends aren't so cramped :)

Definetly the Z-back.  If you need more CP room build into it, that's half the fun of this hobby is ripping it apart to make it your own.  If you don't like that style go with C as it's in the best shape but the Z will give good wow factor.

b or c...

mainly because the existing cp frame supports a larger playfield so a trackball won't be as cramped to the other controls when playing trackball games.

something you might overlook...option A is a metal cp, so you need higher degree of building/hacking skills compared to the wooden cp's of option B & C.

True but metal CPs are cooler

I'd go with B.  It has a nicely large control panel, two coin doors, and the marquee is lit w/ a standard Florescent/LED strip.

I think I'm going to go with C. It looks like it is in the best shape out of the 3. The guy said he would throw in a power supply and jamma harness along with the cabinet. Thanks for all the input and y'all will see a lot more of me.  :burgerking:

Which will help with...  The cab is gutted (no monitor, no controls).  You won't use the JAMMA harness and the power supply is of little use.  I guess you can put it up on B/S/T?

I'd go with A, but metal CP's are something that look complicated to work with when modifying (even though they look WAY better).  If a blank were available, metal would be a no brainer for me!

Go with A. It looks coolest and B and C are too much Mame-machines with floppy cantilevering wide wing CP's. CP's belong within the cab, not outside.
