P1,P2, exit, pause, how'd u configure in Mame. Noobie
« on: August 05, 2011, 04:12:47 pm »
I have a two player bartop cp. 6 buttons each player and a player 1 start and player 2 start buttons, a pause button and an exit button. Does anyone have a similar setup and have a button configuration they like in Mame?

Currently I have the p1 and p2 buttons acting as stated, p1 start and p2 start.  Exit is exit and pause is pause.

However I am using One of each players buttons as insert coin but that sucks as if it's a 6 button game your kicking and inserting coins.

I don't want to configure the p1 and p2 starts to insert coin cause my nieces and nephews play by themselves frequently. I don't want to change the exit and pause cause the artwork is done, and I don't really want to have pause and p1 insert a coin (shift)

Anyone have what they think is the perfect setup with a p1,p2,exit,pause for Mame?

use P1 button and P1 start to insert coin. Do the same for P2.

in MAME config set COIN 1 P1 button AND P1 Start

ie:
P1 Button = E
P1 Start = 1

set
P1 Coin 1 (instead of 5) E AND 1

so when you need to insert coin(s), press P1 Button (holding it down) and START.

For the cab we had at my college dorm, we had the buttons for P1 & P2 Start and to insert coins we held down P1 and moved the joystick left or right to add a credit (Could hold down P2 Start and move joystick for P2 credit).  Your little nephews and nieces may have trouble remembering it, but I thought it was a nice method of adding credits without ever accidentally adding any during play.

EDIT: Sorry, I guess that's essentially the same thing you're trying to avoid (SHIFT)

Add 2 small 18mm sanwa buttons for coins next to the start buttons.  They are pretty small, take next to no space

Easiest thing for your nieces and nephews would be to have P1 & P2 Start mapped to insert a coin and also start the game. Instead of kicking and inserting a coin at the same time with your current set up; when you press start the first time it will insert a coin, when you press it a second time it will start the game and insert the next coin simultaneously.
