HI i'm new, Nintendo vs SEGA Cab
« on: October 26, 2010, 04:31:04 pm »
Hi Guys, my names John,

back in the day i had a few 100 roms on my classic xbox which i loved..... fast forward 10 years and i really want to build my first cab. i have a collection mostly SEGA and Nintendo ROMs, so i'd like to make a "Sega vs Nintendo" cab.....

with sonic and Mario as the main artwork im looking to make some artwork in PS... can anybody help me out on where i can find hi res pics of mario, sonic and sega, nintendo pics/wallpapers etc etc.

or if anybody has any ideas or cabs in the "SEGA vs Nintendo" i'd love to hear them :)

the reason im doing just sega and nintendo is because my pc hardware is alittle to low spec for anything else.... that will be my sencond cab :)

I cant point you in any specific direction but what was helpful when I was looking was to do google image searches and filter to only large images or images over 2mp.

Then you just have to get creative.

Good luck.

You can also order a poster from here:  http://www.allposters.com/gallery.asp?startat=/getposter.asp&APNum=6071614&CID=AB0C4FABDF5F436E868AA5520FAA23E1&PPID=1&Search=mario&f=t&FindID=0&P=1&PP=6&sortby=PD&c=c&page=1

Some people Sandwich the poster between plexi on their control panel.  You could always scan the poster to get the hi res images that you need.  Then you can add the Sonic the Hedgehog graphics as needed.

the background are the later "3d" style, not the 8,12 bit retro versions.  i think i want to to look alittle more modern. anyway here they are... i know i have to vetcor but like i say its concept;

i'd like to see the nintendo and sega logos a little transparent (50%?), it's covering an awful lot of your art. if you could see through it, it would be a little less obtrusive.

otherwise i think you are on the right track.  :applaud:

Great idea for a cab theme!  I'm also getting ready to build my first cab.  I'm leaning towards a Mortal Kombat theme because I remember spending countless hours in my local arcade playing the original.  As far as your art work goes I really like the full color.

that actually looks alright.  just watch out putting text/graphics on the edges, as parts might get covered up or need to be cut off.

Little amendment,  movied sonic and mario back alittle to make room for logos, added shadow to them, and also set the opacity to 75%

I think that last image above looks really cool. Only thing I'd tweak is to remove the "s" and just have it as Nintendo V Sega and just move the V a little to centre it up. Nice theme!

Lookin' good!  Here's what I think.

I think your marquee should have the original one you posted with the Nintendo vs Sega text with full color background.  Don't use transparency, it looks great as is.  But I would add some characters in the foreground to over lap the text to give it a more 3 dimensional feel.

But your control panel can have this graphic, but without any text: (just Mario on the left with the background and Sonic on the right with a background.  Remove the logos and the V can be replaced with a blur effect to merge the two sides.

They would both tie in perfectly.  Then for the side art, you can have a rectangular sticker of a full body shot of Mario on one side and a full body shot of Sonic on the other.  Perhaps text below it in small print saying:  Nintendo vs. Sega.

I gotta say a hedgehog with a razor back high on speed and a power trip would win in a fight against a fat italian plumber any day of the week.

But I like the theme!

Great evolution of a marquee here!  Nice CP too

You should put some Mugen in the cab to deliver on the VS concept!

Sounds like a good idea, but mario's hand is so fat that it would take up half the marquee.  I like the thin 'Vs' that you've selected.  It splits the marquee nicely and doesn't take up much real estate.
