I'm trying to run a few tests with some neogeo roms, so I copied and pasted my working MAME dir to a temp dir and paste neogeo roms in the ROMS dir, but when I launch mame.exe even though I see the roms in the play list, when I try to run them I get the "missing files" error message.  When I launch the original mame.exe and run the same roms from the original ROMS directory everything works.

Do I have to modify some type of file to make mame.exe run roms after I move them around?

check your rom path in the INI.
Also make sure you copy and paste the Neogeo.zip (BIOS) file.

They're fine, still doesn't work.

The ultimate goal is to run NeoGeo from a completely separate MAME.exe than my arcade games, due to button control setup.  I really don't want to set all neogeo games inputs individually.  But whenever I move my neogeo roms in to a new Mame folder structure, when I run the new mame.exe, I get the error.  What's odd is that the games appear in the list properly still.

Anyone know why I'm getting this error?

The only reason MAME would say it can't find the rom file is if it can't find a valid rom file.  This could be because the path is wrong or because the file is wrong.  Check your command line, mame.ini (or whatever your flavor of MAME calls it), and that the rom files are valid for that version of MAME.

If all else fails, simplify things.  Remove the mame.ini file from the MAME root directory (or rename it).  Only have the one rom you want to check in a specific path that you define (or in the "roms" dir under your root MAME dir.  Launch with the simplest command line possible "mame.exe <rom name>".

It seems I need to update my rom versions.  How do I do this?
