I don't see where he stated how much he wanted for it.
Just for reference, I sold my PII-400mhz (back in March, I think) for $200. Could the buyer get a PII-400 for less? Yes. Did I rip him off? No. Could I have made more by parting it out? Probably could have made $250-$300 on ebay, but there are no guarantees. Is he happy with the PC? Yes, because I set it up for him, helped him with all his stupid problems, and even hooked him up with MAME (now he needs a bigger hard drive). The value of the PC goes beyond the processor installed... there are hard drives, ram, video cards, tv tuner cards, and those sweet little mods to the case.
If you get PCs free all the time, great. So do my friends and family... they get the ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- I can't or won't sell. When you are someone else starts posting messages offering to give PCs away for free, than I think we can finally stop debating the value of used PCs.
If anyone cares, I finally sold my Toshiba Libretto 50CT (pentium 75) for $149. About $100 less than I wanted. Good for the buyer... at least until UPS and customs charged him another $120 in tariffs and handling charges.
