Coin doors.... looking for a recommendation!
« on: April 15, 2010, 11:42:47 am »
Hi all,

My new build MAME cab is coming along nicely, I originally wasn't too bothered about a Coin door but after HOURS of reading this forum and looking at pics etc etc I think a coin door is a must have to get that authentic look!

I'm wondering if you can all recommend a coin door that you went for... Here's my ideal "wish list":

I'm from the UK and the ones on both Ultimarc and Gremlin look ok but they just don't look authentic to me as to how they were. I picture them very similar to the control door on Happ's US website, the double reject buttons but the only thing wrong with these for me are that the reject buttons are yellow and 25c rather than being red which is what I'm sure the UK ones were??

I might be being overly fussy and could just go with the Happ USA one as it looks pretty good to me, but wanted to throw it out there and see what other UK MAME cabinet builders think/use?

I am using the double reject and I think it makes a great coin door. You can buy replacement reject buttons in other colors, they are easy to replace. I changed the yellow ones for blue to better match my cab.

Sorry to be a total noob but by the double reject do you mean the one I posted above? I think that's the way forward for me then... Do you know where I can get the replacement colour from?

I've got the door and mechs on the right in your post. I'm in the UK. I bought them from Suzo-Happ in the UK. They sell different colour reject buttons too.

Yes, I have the one pictured above from Happ. They also sell the replacement reject buttons.

This is probably the coin door you are more accustomed to

I picked mine up on the klov.com forums and the guy just happened to have a convention he was attending in my city so I asked if he could bring it with him to help me save on shipping so it all worked out well for me in the end.  You could also search on ebay, I don't find those HAPP ones look very authentic.  Here is another alternative is a DataEast brand new coin door for $55.00 from pinballlife.com if you don't want and over/under style one.
