trying to remember the name of an arcade game...this was a while ago so bear with me

-top down view
-auto scrolling
-similar to total carnage (possibly newer than this title)
-1 joystick and buttons (i believe not a dual joystick)
-army theme
-weapons included flamethrower
-unsure of any multi player (i was a loner so i dunno if more than one person could play :'( )

Did it involve tanks? (i.e. could your guy get in a tank)  Because I know there's one game that sounds like that that has a tank.

How old were you? Narrowing it down to a year would help.

Ikari Warriors? Although that had a rotary joystick (spin the joystick to aim) and a couple buttons.

i'm beginning to think that mercs was it....20 years does funny things to memory.

it seems right...but i'm not sure.....

but looking between commando and mercs there is a marked difference (color palette mainly i think...since they are both std.res)

when did they start using extended resolution??...not sure if it fits the time frame. as i remember it had pretty decent graphics (for the time) so mercs does fit.

Something to consider; back in the day when you first played the arcade game all that you had to compare to would be weaker console versions. The arcade games almost always had better graphics than the console versions of games.
