Started this projected about a month ago, and didn't know the first thing about VP or FP. Just saw Badboybills, and had to create one for myself to finish off the game room!!

Started off with Taking apart a perfectly good ( and new, wife was pissed ) 42 inch LCD TV.

Then getting everything set up on the pool table with a 30 inch samsung monitor.

The next step was getting the box for my pintable laid out and started to take shape.

Then came the graphics, and putting everything together, The plunger, buttons, ect ect

Still have the DMD board to finish up, and the backglass. Heres a little video featuring Dreampin in action =)

I've been kicking around this very same project in my brain for about 6 months now... I love the fact you used a very large LCD... it looks AWESOME!

Thats pretty sweet. Project can get pretty pricey with a 42" and a 30" TV but I would agree it looks way cooler with larger monitors.

this is very cool indeed, although i think i'd still prefer the old school mechanical pins.

maintenance would be really low on this though so thats nice.

Also this has full Nudge, tilt, plunger, and feedback in it. When you hit a flipper you can hear and feel the solenoid kick in. The video and pictures doesn't do it justice.

I always go a little over the edge when i build things, no reason in doing it twice, and if your gonna do it, do it right. I wanted it as large a playfeild i could get without being bulky, and I wanted the smallest bezel possible.

I also future proofed it with specs on the PC, ect.

Once its completed Ill update it with another video and show ya where the money was wisely spent. =)

Besides it beats paying 6k plus shipping from a professional company, that uses a smaller playfeild, smaller backglass, and less games. IMHO

3200+ sounds expensive until you look at the cost of most recent SS pinballs. Most seem to cost any where from $1500-$4000 in the Seattle area. I don't know how much that varies by location, but $3200 for one that plays EVERYTHING is a reasonable price IMO especially compared to the professional options.

Now, I would still prefer the real deal, but I can't justify spending 10s of k's on those kinds of toys. My wife would KILL me!

Oh, and I don't have any more room anyway.

A little too cotton candy on the color scheme for my taste, but overall...

Nice.

I do think it would look a little better if the screen was recessed a bit so as to add a bit of depth to the playfield. It seems kind of odd having it so close to the glass.

Adding more "Depth" to it, I would have had to sink the LCD monitor into the cab, instead of on top of the cab, thus adding another 2 inches on "Bezel" to the playfeild...

I prefer no bezel to depth.

Does that mean that the display is actually the top most piece? You don't have a protective top glass over the actual display itself?

I can certainly understand the desire to not want to have to make a bezel. Heck I still have my arcade machine that I built 4 years ago sitting here without a bezel and front glass, simply because I haven't felt like measuring and making the bezel (some kind of serious don't want to do it mental block).

I figure a bezel for that would be extremely easy to do though. Just frame it with plywood, or heck even masonite.

I wouldn't want what is probably the most expensive part of the whole thing sitting there so exposed, plus you then get that whole depth thing.

Still though. Very nice machine, and if I was standing there playing it in person, I am sure the wow factor would go a long way in making me overlook the little things that a msg board allows me time to nitpick.

Feed back is granted via a selinoid, hooked to each of the flippers, so when I push in it "Thumps"

Lots more pics.. Tho I didnt want to over load the tread with how too's unless people really want to see.

In my humble opinion, I think the monitor might look more realistic if it were recessed about 3 inches into the table. Basicly to the depth a real playfield table would be. Maybe with Plexi over it, if that wouldn't cause reflection issues.

My thoughts exactly. But I think you'd want to stay with glass for something that big.

Very, very well done. Seems like you covered all of the bases too, nice plunger, feedback, etc.

How does it play? Have the physics improved in Future Pinball in the past year ago (haven't played in quite a long time). I'm also curious to know how (if there is any) the "motion blur" is w/ the LCD you are using.

Great job and attention to detail...

The problem with recessing it, from the looks of the pictures anyway, is that the monitor is almost the same width as the outer cabinet dimensions. So, if it were lowered, he would have to cover the monitor sides with something or make the box wider. If he widens the box, it means a small bezel. I like it the way it is, but if I were to build one myself, I would have lowered it to be similar to an actual pin's play field level. Of course, that's relative since every game had different measurements...

used a real one out of a pinball table. Still tring to get the 3rd display working.

its a uphill battle... but working on it now.. Using nanotech's DIY kit... its a pain to config, but you get used to it.

Really depends on how small, i think a bartop version would be pretty cool.
Long as everything is in proportion i think any size could look fine.

I have to tell you, I have a 9.2" widescreen LCD right here ready for that.

I even opened it to make sure the LCD panel wasn't tied to pcboards so that the width would be the same as the LCD.

My problem is that I'm new to this pinball emulation thing and I already have three other projects to finish first. So if you do make a micro-pinball, let me know so I can watch your project!
