Only if he puts a real control panel in there and gets rid of the X-Arcade tank stick.  Otherwise that is one cool build.

Very creative, but man, it sure looks top heavy.  I'd be concerned about the stability of that thing when people start leaning on it...

Very cool. I love all the rust/rivets/grease drips, but that xarcade sticks out like a sore thumb.

Neat effect on the sides with those lit....are those hologram plates? Can't tell for sure.

I agree it's nice, but I do always find it very strange when someone goes to elaborate efforts on the cabinet, then uses an xarcade stick.   Its's like custom building a motorcycle cruiser from scratch, then just throwing a lawnmower motor in.

Understandable though, the guy might be good at woodwork, but have no clue about interfacing arcade controls with a computer...the xarcade would be an easy inexpensive answer.  Not defending it, I can just understand it  ;D

Yet he knew enough to wire the lighting on a different circuit and wire the power switch. It shouldn't be too much of a leap.

Very true, plus presumably if he knows how to put one of these together he got the idea from somewhere...

At the very least, buy the X-Arcade and transplant everything into the cab, don't use X-Arcade box itself.

The box might be more useful than the xarcade controls.  :laugh2:

Love the finish, hate the CP. Sort of looks like an over sized bartop sitting on a pedestal. Regardless, the guy has some awesome skills.

Good unique theme, I give it  also some people say git rid of X-Arcade, but think of it as a best way of making it different instaed of the plain old x-arcade stickers.
Video Games Currently owned and running: Mania Challenge, X-Men (Children of the Atom), A.P.B.

In the works Mame Trek (Scratch Built), Donkey Kong Jr. (Just got a PCB for)

Well I think the point is more that the xarcade interface, joysticks and even buttons are pretty poor knockoffs of the happs and ultimarc parts they represent, so it's not the stickers that are an issue.

I like steampunk too - what a great build.

the poor guy was expecting this thread though...
"Oh, yeah...I know those of you who are serious about MAME cabinets will beat me up for using the pre-made x-arcade controller..."

That cab looks Rusty. He should re do it. I do like the X Arcade though. Nice implementation.
Seriously. Will it fit in my basement or what?

I didn't notice this the first time I looked, but his Marquee is actually CARVED!

Apparently he used a "CarveWrite" for it.

http://store.carvewright.com/home.php

If it wasn't 1900$, that would be a pretty interesting tool to have around...

I have no idea how I didn't see this forum when I built my first mame cabinet....and then the Frankencade.  I take full responsibility for the x-arcade...it was a lazy, drop it in and go solution.  I thought the warranty was decent--but having now replaced 3 of those joysticks...well, let's just say it's lost the allure.
I plan to build up my own replacement.
Love the forum---been looking around. Great stuff everybody!

I too am shocked that you weren't aware of this forum.  This is THE resource for arcade cab building and restoration.

Of course if you had been around here beforehand, we definitely would have talked you into building your own control panel for that bad boy!  ;)

Welcome aboard... better late than never!  Maybe you can share some of your experience with others here.

It has original artwork and theme but the cabinet is a copy of Oscar's standup.
