Tmolding and Laminate problem, Looking for some advice.
« on: September 22, 2009, 10:40:24 am »
I laminates the sides of my cabinet. I guess its a bit thicker than whats normally used on an arcade machine, because when I put in my tmolding, even through the laminate is almost perfectly flush with the wood, you can still see it sticks out farther than the tmolding.

You cant really tell at a distance, but I can tell because I know its there, and it's bugging me and it looks bad lol.

I was hoping someone might have some advice on how to fix this. Ill try to post some pictures as soon as I get home. I forgot to get one last night, and am stuck at work now.

Generally people will offset the T-Molding slot towards the outer edge so that it covers the T-Molding...ie for 1/16" T molding offset your slot by 1/16" from center towards the outer edge. Other people also laminate the inside and that way you can use 5/8" MDF and get your 3/4" t-molding flush from edge to edge.

Yup, I was worried about this at first.  I used 5/8 plywood, with laminate on both sides.  Put on 3/4 tmolding and it is just a hair to big.  I used the shave the extra off with a chisel method and that works fantastic.  So if it seem like you need more tmolding width, you can always order some bigger stuff and trim.

If you put laminate on 3/4 inch wood and need wider molding, you could order some 13/16 size.
