Having bought Hallowindow II last year, I received an email today that the new version is available.  I haven't decided if I am going to get it yet, but I wanted to make sure that everyone else had the chance.  I think he ran out of DVDs last year and then offered it as a download.  Hopefully anyone that wants it will pay for the DVD this year.

I'm pondering whether I should order the 2 disc combo. I bought the download last year, but that was only hallowindow I, and the eyeball. I would like to have the whole collection.

It is $50 shipped "in Canadian funds". I need to figure out the exchange rate right now.

Oh, and on top of Hallowindow, we are hoping to decorate most of our yard as Alice in Wonderland. My wife has made an Alice dress for our daughter from her own pattern. The store bought pattern wasn't movie authentic...
Next, she'll make her own Queen of Hearts dress. I just don't get into the dressing up aspect of Halloween, so I get to be a card that is painting the roses red. Wife wants me to be the one that gets dragged off to be killed - I think she's a sadistic nut. I'll be an inauthentic 9 of diamonds, thank you very much!

I ordered the Sauron-like "eye of fire" a few weeks ago -- it's pretty good and was worth the $3.  I also have the Hallowindow download from last year, as well as some free segments I found here that I will combine together in a looping playlist. 
I'm not sure I need another set of discs for $50.  Hopefully he offers something more reasonably-priced for download.

I found this on youtube a while back. I tested it on a shower curtain from behind and it looks great. I also didnt project the title at the top by just raising that part above the shower curtain.

I don't know... I get about 500 trick or treaters and it is annoying by the end of the night - and expensive - we spend a lot on candy.

LOL yeah, but I have an SVGA projector collecting dust and I have yet to see anyone with something similar around here.  Until I see it at another house, I'll probably keep doing it.

We live just far enough out even the few kids who do live around our place go elsewhere.
And of those few, most have outgrown Halloween.

when I was a teen, I put together an amp and a reverb.
Hid the speaker under the pumpkin on the front porch, then when kids walked up I would say scary things.
It scared one little kid so bad he refused to come on the porch. It made me feel bad so I took the candy out to the end of the sidewalk and told him it was just a trick.

I know there is a old vhs/dvd santa thing that you can display in the single window but the guy wants $200+ for it last time i looked.

There's a short clip of it on your tube just a guy dressed as santa with a black background and a candle and unloads presents and waves to the kids outside id like to try something like that if possible

We ran a test the other night in our front window..  The neighborhood kids who were around thought it was awesome, so it should be a pretty fun Halloween    My wife enjoys decorating for Halloween, and she loves it, so I'm happy

Magic mirror is badass, and I do believe I will be looking into setting one up. It looks quite similar to the one in Snow White, so it should fly with our theme.

Yeah, you could put yourself up there just like the puppet.  Not too different, just another route to go, more versatile than a few canned phrases.

I have seen the 'floating head' thing before done with a video camera. It was really frikkin cool. It didn't trigger the geek factor though like this did. It's also alot more work.

Shouldn't be that much more work.  Defocus the image some like a bad arcade monitor, put on a black coverall Conan O Brien style and only show your head, and you've got it pretty much nailed.  A decent green screen would really add to the work, though.

It really is a shame that I can't do any of this.  I'd love to try.  Maybe once the kids have outgrown trick or treating and I'm home all night.

hallowindow is awesome...i have to try this...although the price is a little steep for something i'll use so little.  i've been looking around the internet for some free alternatives, i've found a few things that may work..but i have to get my old projector back from my sister before i can try it.  i dont want bother taking my good projector down off of the ceiling.

Since its October, I'm in the Halloween mood and I'm doing some testing. I bought a shower curtain for $2.00 at Big Lots. Hung it up a week ago to help the folds work their way out. Its at about 40% right now.

I used my Dell 3300MP projector tonite for some testing. Here are the results:

Update: Got the dvds, picked up a clearance curtain from Target. Hooked up the old projector in the garage and a PA monitor. It's an amazing effect. The sound makes all the difference. If you've got a way, pump out that sound. Looks great.

Intent would definitely be present in this scenario for the tort assault (though probably not for criminal assault).  You don't need to "intend to harm someone"; you just need to intend to cause an apprehension of harmful or offensive contact.  And what you actually intended is immaterial.  The question is whether a reasonable person would expect his actions to cause someone to apprehend imminent harmful or offensive contact.  Apprehension is similarly measured.  The question is whether a reasonable person would apprehend harmful or offensive contact.  In this case you might run into trouble because it's likely easier to create an apprehension of harmful contact in the mind of a child than an adult, and you are presumably firing your candy at children.

Why throw candy at trick or treaters to begin with? If you shoot it out of a potato gun, no one will likely come back year after year. If you dont want to give candy, then leave the porch light off and or ignore the knocks. Chances are the 'word' on the street will be, dont go to that guys house!

If you invite people to your house, suchs as TOT's, then shoot them with a potato gun full of candy, then you open yourself up to assault because they didnt tresspass, you invited them with honsest intentions. I'll bet if you shoot a kid with a potato gun, you'll get a visit from local/county police within minutes and maybe some street justice!

If it makes you feel better I was speaking only about intent and whether shooting candy at children would count as an assault.  In fact it would really probably be no big deal if you did this and were sued for assault.  Assault is almost always charged alongside battery, but if there was no battery there are three types of damages you might be required to pay: compensatory (like if the kid is so distraught that he suffers physical harm like he starts vomiting or something), nominal, punitive.  Nominal damages exist just to acknowledge that a person's rights were technically violated but not in any way that is truly worthy of compensation -- you might be ordered to pay $1 to the person.  And punitive damages are only awarded in especially egregious situations, like if you were knowingly putting kids lives in danger for fun or something.  In this case you'd hopefully only pay nominal damages (unless you used the potato gun of course). 

On the other hand, if a piece of that candy hits a kid that's a battery.  In fact, if it even hits the kid's candy bag it's a battery.

Of course this is all academic.  A judge may well roll his eyes and dismiss the case as lacking merits, in spite of the technical validity of such an assault claim.  Or maybe as I mentioned before, the law would be technically respected, but the absurdity of the claim is also acknowledge with nominal damages like $1 being awarded which not only doesn't cover the "victim's" lawyer fees, but doesn't even come close to covering basic court costs like filing fees.  The reality is that it's prohibitively expensive.  Nobody would actually sue you for this except an independently wealthy person who really ---smurfing--- hates you.  God knows a lawyer would never take the case on a contingency agreement cos he would never be paid.  Nothing to fuss over.

These are, of course, your legal arguments.  You're either convincing or not.  But the other side would do a lot of theatrics and eye rolling, asking whether a reasonable kid expects to have candy converted into projectiles and fired at them from some kind of device when they knock on the door and hold out their bags for candy.  They would be rather persuasive arguments.  I think the majority of people would, in fact, be rather surprised by this behavior.  Again, I only mean that it's very likely a technical assault, not that you shouldn't do it.  I think you most definitely should do this.  And it would almost certainly be fun and consequence free.

That's the first I've heard a statement like that?  Can you cite any documents to back this up?  I'm especially interested in specifics on what would qualify since, I myself, have what I'm sure would be considered a "potato gun" (even though I only shoot tennis balls) and another compressed air rifle which works on the same concepts of a potato gun but has a 1" barrel out of which glow-sticks are the main projectile.

It would sure be nice to know if I were breaking the law...

Hmm, a friend of mine is the founder of the "Bar Harbor Siege Engine Machine Society" and they used to use a small catapult to throw candy at kids during the parade... Too bad I wasn't there when they were doing it, I might get a bit sadistic with the aim.

Here's my setup so far. This was taken in broad daylight with a crappy cam but you get the idea. My projector is only 700 lumens, curtain from Target on clearance, 15 inch PA speaker system for sound (Music playing was added after the fact, crappy camera doesn't pick up sound very well). For some reason I cannot get sound from this video in Chrome. Works fine in IE though.

If you open up the discs and play the files with something like VLC player you will see there are some additional animations. Mostly these are just the same from the DVD menu in different colors. I found the ghost scene in red which I like better. There were a couple on the Hallowindow 3 disc as well.
