isolation transformer question

ok i understand the safety reason for a isolation transformer, but could running a monitor without one damage it?

i ask this because i bought a couple of machines the other day going though them one of them is running without a transformer, it's total hill jack job..

someone wired it directly to AC.

anyway it's an electrohome, i dunno what model i did'nt write it down im gonna yank it out of the cab tomorrow, as im stripping the cabs down..

it does come on, it has street fighter 2 in it, which i can hear playing the screen shows scrambled line, reminds me of when you send to high a freq to a monitor, you can see color changes but the image is completely unrecognizable.. i wont know till tomorrow if this is a board or monitor problem.

it also had lost 2 of it's rubber wedges, luckly they was at the bottom of the cab, i slipped them back in place but i need to keep them from falling back out.. what kinda adhesive is recommended?

Not using one for a required monitor will hurt the monitor.
Using one for any MONITORS will not hurt any of it.

ah, ok thats what i suspected but could only find the safety reasons for having one, what ares would it be bad for it? im gonna pull the monitor tonight, probably wont have time today but im gonna wire it up outside the cab and try a known working board on it (with the isolation transformer of course) probably get to that tomorrow.

but it sounds like im gonna have some repairs ahead, it does come on so i figure it can't to TOO bad of a repair.

the electrohome definitely needed a transformer, it has a big sicker on the frame.. i dont know why whoever had it decided to get rid of the transformer.. all 3 cabs i bought are total hill jack jobs.. and they've seen many conversions.. one of them is centipede they changed to horizontal and brutalized with several bad paint jobs *shakes head*

anyway i'll grab my camera and grab some snappies..

possibly either the vert or horz transistors from what i've been reading are often the culprits but i dunno.

btw what kinda adhesive should be used to resecure the rubber wedges, 2 of them was in the bottom of the cabinet (fell off), put them back in place but they need to be secured.

So if you are a gambler... then yes sometimes no ISO will work, This all has to do with the polarity of the power cord and all other equipment in the cabinet.

This is extreme Russian Roulette for the monitor and the game board do no gamble.

So if the games play blind let'[s hope,

Likely the Series pass regulator, fuse and perhaps the bridge diodes.

Clean the glass area where the wedge sits and use whatever will stick.
Silicone, hot glue, double sided tape, just needs to keep it from falling out of place. (obviously)
Make sure the yoke is correctly positioned before sticking them, of course you'll have to get it running first. (shouldn't have moved that much really)
