Going to Vegas - any advice or anyone want to meet up?
« on: April 15, 2009, 02:28:14 pm »
Well, the subject says it all.

What should I avoid and what should I organise before I go?

Also, if anyone lives out there, would be cool to meet up!

When?

Avoid calling the numbers on the cards the 'clickers' hand out...
Organise your finances before you go, figure how much you can play with, and leave the rest behind!

Pinball Hall of Fame is a must for any arcade enthusiast.

Everything else comes down to what you are interested in - Shows? Concerts? Restaurants? Shopping? It's all there, just depends on how your tastes and budget run.

My personal favorite for "fine dining" is Mesa Grill in Caesars Palace. Not cheap, but the food and service have always been top notch when I've gone.

That comment made this scene from The Holy Grail pop into my mind  :)

Sir Lancelot: "We were in the nick of time. You were in great peril."
Sir Galahad: "I don't think I was."
Sir Lancelot: "Yes, you were. You were in terrible peril."
Sir Galahad: "Look, let me go back in there and face the peril."
Sir Lancelot: "No, it's too perilous."
Sir Galahad: "Look, it's my duty as a knight to sample as much peril as I can."
Sir Lancelot: "No, we've got to find the Holy Grail. Come on."
Sir Galahad: "Oh, let me have just a little bit of peril?"
Sir Lancelot: "No. It's unhealthy."
Sir Galahad: "I bet you're gay."
Sir Lancelot: "Am not."

Well I appreciate the fact that Vegas is Vegas because you never win. I have my limit and I stick to it, but as for food lets just say I am used to good restaurants so will def try Mesa.

I will have to try the hall of fame too! Thanks for the heads up!

I am open to suggestions really. Any arcade specific stuff there? Apart from Happ of course... (there is a Happ there isn't there?)

Happ is across from the airport off Sunset, a block west of Sunset Park (Sunset & Eastern).  Check out the park - has a nice trout lake.

There is an op which resides at the back of the Palms.  You might want to do a warehouse raid.  He had some interesting items, like a restored Space Ace,  but I would call before you go.

I was there last august and was pretty dissappointed in the selection of games in the casino arcades, though there were a few highlights (I mostly didn't get away from the north end of the strip):

Gameworks (below the MGM grand) had a selction of retro games including Asteriods, Moon Patrol, Space Invaders, Gorf, Missle Command, Ms Pacman, and Galaga.

The arcade in the MGM Grand had light gun cab that was playing a bunch of the old laserdisk arcade games (Mad Dog McRee and a few others) although the lightgun accuracy wasn't that great.

The Excaliber had an SNK vs Capcom.  Hadn't seen that cab before.

I was disappointed that the Luxor got rid of their arcade.  They had a Donkey Kong.

Maybe it's just because I'm reading it out loud or something, but I actually think that's kinda funny.

Isn't the hyperspin team near Vegas? I remeber them helping out a guy on here who had a standalone CP linked up to a widescreen.

No...boy do I wish! :Most are from CA. Dazz lives in TX. I think I am the only one out on the east coast :D BadBoyBill was in Vegas a few weeks ago to check out the Pinball Hall of Fame/Museum. He was taking photos of all the backglasses for HyperPin. From what he said, its a pretty cool place...nothing fancy...but lots of pins. You should check it out if you are looking for something to do.
