mame cab project
« on: May 26, 2008, 04:48:42 am »
ok, so the electronics are figured out
everything works and its been a long time since intro to electronics back in high school

now i'm ready to start building a big ugly piece of ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- that my wife will hate
problem is, its also been a long time since high school woods class
i started working on a rough draft of the cabinet tonight
anything really obviously wrong or out of proportion so far?

Buy Saint's Book. It will correct this problem.
what kind of wood should i buy?
Use the Search tool. This question has been asked and discussed a lot. For example, in this thread and this one.

I second purchasing Saint's Book.  I'm not trying to suck up to anyone either.  It's been a great help and source of inspiration for me.  (As well as these boards).  In addition, I would suggest tilting your monitor back a little bit as the straight vertical positioning it currently has will cause some issues.  There should be some type of tilt backwards on the monitor to reduce glare and provide some comfort when playing.

now i'm ready to start building a big ugly piece of ---Cleveland steamer--- that my wife will hate

Well don't make it ugly then!
Guess the way you start, you have plans to end up on this site, which I feel should not be your goal:

See the whole thing trough and remember what NOT to make.
Then go here and pick a wife-friendly design like the Pac-Man cab. Opposite to what you might think, don't pick the Miss pac-man cab. The original Mr. Pac-Man is nicer.

Good luck.

Will Obama finally introduce the metric system to the USA next autumn?

Put a radius on those right angles so you can put your T-molding on properly.
