New person, new-ish project (Deus Ex Machina)
« on: February 25, 2008, 12:58:13 pm »
Greetings all,
I've been a long time lurker here reaping the benefits of all your discussions and projects. Figured it's time to start contributing a bit myself.
I'm currently midway through my second Mame project, tentatively named "Deus Ex Machina," which I will try to document here as best I can while I finish it up.

Here are some rough details of the project (nothing too groundbreaking):
 - Upright, 2-player fighter style with Jukebox controls, designed and built from scratch
 - Interfaced via USB gamepad hacks (player controls) and a keyboard hack (jukebox controls)
 - 4 player PS2 controller port bay in front for emulated console action
 - Windows based with Mamewah frontend
 - 24" flat screen TV with S-video for monitor
 - 2 Happ Competition Joysticks, 7 button configuration, Happ 12 key and triangle buttons for Jukebox controls

I'll add more as i have time.

I'm attaching the plans I designed in Autocad if anyone's interested. It's all kind of tentative, though. I'm more of a "build by the seat of my pants" kind of person!
I'm currently working on my marquee and CP artwork which I will eventually post for some feedback/criticism.

Also, thanks to everyone who posts on here for inspiring and figuring out/explaining just about everything I've needed regarding mame!

Here are some pictures from my old project, too.

Similar to my current project in that it's a 2 player, upright, fighter style. TV monitor, windows/mamewah based, interfaced via PS1 game pad hacks and USB converters.

Not my best work, my roommate was more concerned in getting it working than looking good, but a good stepping stone.
included is the CP art design which I thought was pretty cool at the time.
If anyone's interested, I have a full size version as well.

You must be in love with Literature in order to use a "plot device"  to name your project.

Good luck with your build and welcome to the forums.
