They are throwing around names like crazy for this movie! The only person that is apparently a shoe-in for one of the roles is Vince Vaughn, which is assumed to be playing Steve Wiebe. Jeesh, Vaughn even made sure Steve had a role in his newest movie.

As to the movie, I would prefer they make a fictional movie with the basic plot of King of Kong. And yes, I think it would work great as one of those Will Ferrell "The Ballad of..." movies.

In real life, the worst ---uvulas--- are the ones who don't think they are ---uvulas---. Reasoning being that they don't think they are in the wrong (when they are) and don't realize their actions and words hurt others (which they do). Thus, they never apologize for anything they do. Then when you call them on it, they act shocked and somehow find a way to make you look like the ---uvula---.

I know more than a few of these and know how the game works.

I'm not, believe it or not. EVERYBODY likes me in real life. I seriously get along with everybody. And I'm rarely in a bad mood. I'm just as irreverent IRL as I am here, but my natural charms aren't readily apparent in internet forums . . .

I used to play DK like crazy back in 1982 in a local pub in Leeds. I was only 14 but my mate lived in the pub and we spent God knows how many 20p pieces in that thing.

Just the preview clips of film have inspired me to try my best and get close to the kill screen on DK. My best score so far is just short of 300K but that's on Japan set 2 Rom... different to US Rom. I can reach the kill screen on Crazy Kong quite easy (level 22 100m) but of course that's easy-peasy compared to DK.

I've yet to see this film in full but being in the UK I don't know if an EU DVD version will be released.

I'm guessing it would be, but if not, aren't DVD's pretty much a globally standard now in that an NTSC or PAL can be played on most current players?

What about all that region 1 and region 2 crap etc.? I'm not an expert on regional dvds... maybe a DVD from anywhere can play on my PC DVD player?

Even if this film ever does get made with Hollywood stars you get bet your life that it will be a tenuous likeness indeed. They won't even use DK as the game. That won't be "hip" enough for them. They will have some made up super-duper game that supposedly everyone in the world is playing at the time. I just know they will spoil it completely.

It's no longer really an issue. Region free players have been widely available for some time and they generally don't cost any more than the region locked ones. I bought a region free one from Argos just before Xmas for £15.

Even if a player is not region free out of the box many can be made region free by entering a special code. As a matter of principle I would never buy a region locked DVD player.

Anyway, even if you've already got a region locked player you can always burn a copy of the DVD with the region lock removed.
