KeyWiz Help Needed
« on: November 30, 2007, 03:13:21 am »
I have the KeyWiz Eco, and am running MAME32 front end.  I have my 40-pin IDE cable ready to rock and roll, but am confused about the hookups.  I want to use the defaults.
I have a single joystick and buttons for
Player 1
Player 2
Action button 1
Action button 2
Action button 3
Thats it.    on the Keywiz, I hookup my joystick to 'J1' , starting from the right;
Shazamm
Ground
Up
Down
Left
Right

Then I get lost,  :-\ where are the player 1 and player 2 buttons?
L Ctrl and L Alt?

Thanks for the help

If you start a game and press the TAB key it will get you into the menu that shows how the key assignments are set up.  That's the easiest way to see the default setup.

Try the documentation on the groovygamegear website.  Scroll to the bottom of the page for the KeyWiz Eco.  You may find what you are looking for at the bottom of the Installation Documentation Sheet (pdf)., and/or the Advanced Wiring TEchniques.
If this doesn't help, email or pm Randy - he's sure to have a reference sheet of pinouts to outputs, etc.

I think I have it figured out, but the instructions call for me to map KeyWiz terminal J to player 2 start.

On the KeyWiz default key map (included with the KeyWiz Eco), for J1 there is no map to key J.

Can someone help? :banghead:

OK,
a fresh pot of coffee and a fresh perspective.....
All I need to know now is the way the KeyMap is laid out, are the J2 controls actually on the right side of the 40 pin, and the J1 controls are on the left side of the 40 pin, when your +5 and -5 volts are on the left?

Thanks :o

BTW, I dont think the way you have it drawn up is correct.
On a 40 wire IDE cable, the wires alternate from side to side.
Wire 1, which is 5 volts, is pin one on left side, wire two is pin one on right side, etc.

Almost everything is working.  The only two buttons that are not are for coin 1 and coin 2.  Do these need to be wired differently?  Am I missing something?

I have he correct wires hooked up per the keymap linked to above by DaOldMan (thanks again for that awesome help MaxMix)

Any ideas?
 :-\
Thanks

In the KeyWiz menu, they buttons work, and are wired to 5 and 6 respectively, but when I go into a MAME game, they are looking for 3 and 4 as inputs for the coins.  Am I running an old version and this has been changed?

Thanks!
