Any hockey fans here?
« on: October 08, 2007, 09:44:26 pm »
My Wild are on pace to win 82 games this year.  ;D :D They have played ok so far. A couple bad periods but over all, not bad.

We are taking a trip to Arizona on Friday (driving) and we are going to try like hell to get there for the game on Saturday night in Phoenix. (We have 4 people going and all can drive so we are taking turns.) We will be in AZ for a week so we are also considering going to LA for the game on Tuesday. The wife and I love to watch hockey and after junior moves out, we will probably vacation driving around watching the Wild play in as many different arenas as we can. Should be fun!

Who are you rooting for?

When I was a kid I lived and breathed for the Nordiques.  I threw a little party when they signed Lafleur... had posters of Goulet and spent half a year's spending cash on a real Sakic jersey... I still hold a major grudge against Eric Lindros.  All those years with no playoff appearances... all those great draft picks in the late 80s early 90s to build a dynasty... I haven't watched any NHL games since the ---smurfing--- Avalanche won the Stanley cup with our team in 95/96.

---daisies---.

Come on now Chad....tell us how you REALLY feel. Quit sugar coating.  ::) :D

You must have liked it then when Brunette put the game 7 game winner past Roy (pronounced ROY). :) It was fun for us. Then we made the come back again against the much hated (around here) Canucks. And after Bertuzzi shot his mouth off about fishing after they went up 3 games to none.

I felt the same about Dallas winning OUR cup. Norm Green is an ass. One of the best games I have been to was the first time Dallas came here and we won 6-0. That was a hell of a lot of fun! We scored from the blue line on basically a dump in. :) The crowd went crazy that night. I couldn't speak for a day or two.

We used to have a local semi-pro team here that I saw alot. Hockey is a blast to watch in person if you can get up close. Sadly, they left town and I haven't watched hockey since.

That was one of my favorite parts of going to Northeastern.  World class hockey on a regular basis a 5 minute walk away and tickets for $5.  We saw so many future NHL stars play.

I'm a huge hockey fan.  I have a half-season ticket plan for the Penguins.  I'm hoping to get to a few out of town games this year.  Hopefully Columbus, Detroit, Philly, Buffalo, and DC.  Or at least some subset of these...

Pittsburgh is a good place to be a hockey fan now.  Crosby looks like the real thing.

Yea, it was tough prior to last year, but we're looking good now.  Our defense may still be a bit of an issue, but we do have some young guys in the AHL that will hopefully pan out soon.

The only problem with them having such a good year last year is that our ticket prices went way up this year!  I'm afraid to even think about what they will cost when our new arena opens!!

It's okay, it will get better when they end up giving Crosby majority ownership of the team.

Just thought I'd mention I'm a hockey fan too.  I also play in an old man's rec league here in town.  Great sport.

I'm a Lightning fan, and we too are on a pace for 82-0!!

I hate our new logos though...they look like a 4 year old drew them up just after nap time.

J_K, where were you guy?  I set up a fantasy hockey league over at NHL a few weeks ago and invited anyone from here to come join (or did you and I don't know it?)!   ;D

I'm a die-hard Thrasher fan, and damned if we aren't dying out of the box. 0-3, and have given up at least 3 goals per game on each of them.  It ain't going to get better, I'm afraid - whoever made up our schedule apparently hates us - the first 14 games go like this:

Washington - 10/5 (home); Tampa (10/6-away); Ottowa (10/10 -home); Buffalo(1/11 -away); New Jersey (10/13 -home); Philly (10/16-away); Rangers (10/18-home), then in order, all away games, Tampa (10/20), Toronto (10/23), Nashville (10/25), Chicago (10/27), Montreal (10/30), Ottowa (11/1), Tampa (11/3).

Once again, we are already 0-3 over the first three.  I keep telling my family (who climbed on board last year), that we cannot expect much if we come off these 14 at 0-14. My biggest problem with them is NOT the goaltending but the fact that the other 5 look like an expansion team again, just skating  in circles, dump the puck and chase it, dump and chase, etc.

I'll second what has been said about the minor league hockey clubs. Tampa's IHL affiliate, the Knights, were based here in Atlanta for 3-4 years- center ice seats (glass level) were $16, I think.  Nothing like it.  I high-fived perfect strangers all over the damn place the night the Knights won the Turner cup.  It was classic and a cherished memory.

Well, we made it! It was fun. There is NO WAY the Wild should have won that game but we did.

It is a very nice arena. I liked it a lot. It was a bit surprising that there were SO many empty seats. Although, after losing that game I guess I can understand. :P

I don't think after the drive here that we will be going to the LA or the Ducks game though. That is a LONG LONG drive to make in two days. (The drive from MN to AZ that is)

Right now the Bruins are like the fat stupid stepchild of Boston... the Pats are 6-0, the Sox are in the ALCS, and the Celtics are sudden favorites in the East... but the Bruins won't do jack and everyone knows it.

EDIT:  just remembered... BC is #3 in the country, 6-0.  National Championship, baby.   ;D

They just hired Cam Neely as team president. :applaud:  Maybe they are trying to turn things around.  Although i dont know how they ever thought trading Joe Thorton for a bag of pucks was a good idea.  :banghead:

Because Joe Thornton was a total bust in Boston?  He was a wuss on the ice and never lived up to half the potential a #1 pick should have.  It really is frustrating that his first year out of Boston he goes off the way he did.

Dude, I totally missed them hiring Neely as VP.  That's awesome.  He was one of my idols in high school.  Hopefully he turns out to be a good executive and not one of those HOFers that totally smegs up the team.

Well, after going 0-6, Coach Hartley's gone....they announced his firing about  2 hours ago here in Atlanta.

I knew someone's head would roll for this - but I'm not sure they  lopped off the right one.
