Rom set missing file
« on: September 08, 2007, 10:25:47 am »
I understand that rom sets get upgraded and changed with new mame versions.
I have an previous version rom called asteroid.zip with 4 files in it.
When I run mame it says I'm missing 034602-01.c8.  So, I got the file and added it to the zip file and it works fine.
What I don't get - is when I "acquired" a new version (118) of asteroid.zip, the 034602-01.c8 file was not included.  What's the deal with this?  Is this always the case? Or did I just get another old version of the rom?

When get updated, ROMS (some) get changed.

REasons:

1. No good dump (got re-dumped for a new good one) (Maybe this is the case in your case) so the old one got removed.

2. ROMS gets added to a ROmSet (specially color proms)
3. HACKS REMOVE
4. ROMSET gets RENAME
5. I'm sure there is more for CHD's.

Anyway, my rule of thumb is, if MAME says its missing files, thats just it.  ;D

Thats why some keep older versions, just in case they need to run MAME in an oldier PC. Specially if they just want to run the classics.
